1948 A7 rigid bits 'n' pieces. WANTED!!

I have a bare A7 rigid frame which eventually will form the basis of my everyday rider. (Please note the word "bare")

Anyone with spare forks, tinware, oil tank, air cleaner....etc, etc that they are desperate to be rid of, please drop me a message!

I should probably point out that I am not planning a numbers-perfect restoration, more a classic that's set up to run with everyday traffic. Before you get the ropes, pitchforks, tar and feather mattress out, please note I am currently restoring a 1930 Sloper and a 1934 500cc side-valve.

As originality is not an issue with the '48, any advice on alternative forks, whether an early '50s A10 motor will bolt-up, etc will be muchly appreciated!

Hi Matt, where abouts in the world are you?
If you wanna do a 1948 A7 and you only have a bare frame then you need to know you have probably got one of the hardest BSA twin bikes to find parts for.
1950-53 A10 rigid/plungers, 1958-61 A10 super rockets, 1947-50 A7 longstrokes, 1949 Star twin,
1951-54 A7 plungers, 1940s M21, WDM20s,
1948-50s B33s rigid/plunger/swingarm, 1948-50s b31s rigid/plunger/swingarm

I hope you've been watching Ebay Matt as there has been some recent nice bits going on there. Some of the engine stuff has been ridiculously cheap, was tempted myself but... will I ever need those spares??

Highly recommended mod #1: get yourself a 66-68 BSA A65 front end with the damper rods and 8" single-sided brake.  The handling and stopping of your bike will be much improved while still looking stock.  As far as the motor goes, any semi-unit lump will fit, but for a daily rider, I would prefer a  500 over a 650 mainly for comfort and reliability.  The lower-stressed 500's (I have no experience with the long strokes) are simply smoother and lower stressed and IMHO just sweeter motors.  So, I'd look for a 51-54 A7 motor.

Thanks all, especially Muskrat. It looks like I'll put a A65 motor in it, but I want to retain all original tinware etc. I think it will look OK. Opinions???
