New member Gerry from Germany
« on: 23.08. 2015 21:42 »
Just want to say hello to everybody here....
I´m Gerry and I´m living in South Germany only 10 km away from the Auto- und Technikmuseum Sinsheim :)
After rebuilding a Horex Regina3 from 1953 a few years ago I´m now working on a BSA A10 Golden Flash from 1960. Broken clutch, bad fuel tank, bad rear suspension..... just normal work....

Here comes a picture from my Golden Flash before dismantling.... And short time later.... And my last project, Horex Regina3... with a nice British front brake :)

Gerry,
they both look very smart! I like the brake upgrade on the Horex. Looks like a 7" BSA group brake  *wink2* I think some of the B44 shooting stars had them as well as the daytona trumpets,
I did think about fitting one of those 7" TLS brakeplates on the back wheel of my sidecar but I can lock it up with the standard one so didnt bother, so its still on the shelf

Keep us posted with progress.
Tim

You are right! Nice looking and good working 7" BSA brake :) but hard to find brake shoes here and not easy to fit it to the Horex. If I find a 8" for my Golden Flash I will also make the change because it is a big difference in breaking power.

Cheers

That's certainly a popular mod as its easy to do for any Full Width Hub beesa. I've modified a SLS brake plate to TLS as I find the angular scoops on the late sixties TLS brake plate a bit too jarring for the style of an A10, but I suspect I'm out on a limb holding that view.  *whistle*
I havent got a decent photo to hand, I wanted something that looked more original and in keeping with the 60 type brake.
But this is the later Full Width drum

I agree but in nowadays traffic I need a really good brake also as an owner of a historic bike. But this brake plate looks really nice :)

Update.....
Motor has been sent for inspection and repair to a known German specialist for twins.
Frame and other parts have gone for sand blasting.
Brake pedal and some other parts will be prepared for chroming now.
Some parts for repairing the gear box arrived :) Need some more bushes to start.
Next job site will be the fork and wheel hubs (cleaning, painting, new springs....)
Deadline for first ride: April 2016.... We will see if it works ;)
Cheers
Gerry

P.S.: I will do the painting (frame, small parts...) by myself. There is a new professional spray paint product line (2K). Any comments?

totally up to you what you do with your bike, certainly not my call; but BSA didn't chrome the brake pedals. A lot of owners have however over the years, mind you owners also used to chrome engine cases, gearboxes and primaries... especially in the seventies for that bling chopper look

RR,

You've just described my bike and I'm the one who chromed it in the 70's. It was cheap back then. Not saying I'd do it again.

No fear guys! I'm not the one who will chrome all possible parts even if I have a Harley in my garage ;)
Just some small parts like anchor straps, maybe brake pedal (I have to take a look on some pictures how it looks). The bike should nearly original...maybe not 100%.

Black base coat finished on frame and other parts... It´s a 2K-System named SprayMax. It´s like painting with a professional spraying gun!

G'day Gerry.
Good to see your getting on with it. Are you planning to run the primary dry or wet?
