It is a beast of an engine but it is fun other than the starting. Terry Prince supplied many of the steroidal parts and I was the willing co conspirator. Perhaps we got a little carried away.
Going to get busy with this Super Rocket today. It has the Ewarts type taps and they are leaking when shut off, dry when left open. My temporary solution was to leave them open. This was fine until I parked the bike on the side stand yesterday. The float decided to stick and the contents of the fuel tank ended up in the engine.
I did not notice this and started the bike. It sounded a bit off and then I noticed smoke and raw gas pumping out the exhaust! Lucky that was all that happened.
Many years ago I burned up a good Matchless G80 due to a leaking push-pull tap, so perhaps it might be prudent to change these out for some UK made ball valve type?
My purist friend wants me to stay with the Ewarts taps, but the memories of flames around the crotch have me thinking otherwise!
