FWIW here's my take on it. This design is (obviously) based on 'our' most distinctive image, the A series timing cover.
This is THE ONE visual image that makes us distinctive. (Note that I resisted the temptation to place a black oval beneath the image).
I've transmogrified* the 'piled arms' motif so that it now resembles a road disappearing into the distance, relevant of course - and It also adds a nice visual 'dynamic'.

This is intended to be a LOGO. Specifically designed to be highly functional for all media and all sizes, It would work for everything from a patch or small key-fob, to a tee shirt or poster.
Like any good logo, it can also be used as a smaller part of a larger design. For example we might want to have a tee-shirt with the cutaway engine illustration, but we'd include the logo as a smaller 'key' image that identifies us.

I've used the red white and blue colours that are the trad Brit colours, -relevant for our Brit machines, but there are many other colour schemes that could work. (A simple black and white version is included).

(*Blimey, I've finally found somewhere I can use that word!)

Getting back to business I've already voted but your design is extremely eyecatching ,cheers Bob

FWIW here's my take on it...

These images certainly have a zing! My personal taste is for a more nostalgic feel, more appropriate for my 1955 motorcycle. These designs remind me of a later period. However, we now need another poll and the members can indicate their preference.

I agree that the forum should have a distinctive logo.

Nice work Jools, very distinctive. *yeah*
I have to agree with Gb, it's got a 60's-70's A50 A65 feel to it using our T/cover.

I think it's a fair point that something more 'nostalgic' looking might also work.
I have another idea in mind based on the 'pear-shaped' plastic star tank badge that would look pretty nice, and it would have that very cool classic 50's look.
But I need a good original to work from in order to develop the design. Does anyone have an illustrated version, or even better, a spare original badge I could use?

If you can imagine this badge rendered with 'our' wording...
(Bsa would have also used this badge on A50 & A65 models, maybe singles too, so it isn't as specific to the A7 & A10, maybe though that's not such a problem).

To my mind that badge never looked as good as it's forerunners - below A10, RGS and the badge I think I like best although don't think it ever graced an A,  sorry files are a bit small

Personally, am a vintage-style fan. The 3 rifles logo (see badge3 in bsa-bill's post above) is something I highly appreciate.

Oright! here's anotherie...
I've always loved this Rocket design. It's the 'Super Rocket' decal. (I always meant to put this one on my Lyta but unfortunately my transfer cracked up before I could apply it, anyway it's come in handy finally for reference for this logo)

So evocative of those oil-seeping 1950's. That super Dan Dare / Flash Gordon rocket imagery. It's pretty well specific to BSA pre-unit twins, which works. Obviously I've done a fair bit of err.. transmogrification as you can see. (There may be rambunctios argument over this eh?  *pull hair out*)
