New Member, A10 Super Rocket

Hi everyone!

My name is Ilias, I am 32, Greek-American living in Århus, Denmark. I bought the below '58 A10 Super Rocket, somewhat impulsively last year. I am generally new to motorcycles and mechanics mostly having worked on mopeds, but enjoy being on the limit of my comfort zone...

The bike was purchased and immediately overhauled over last winter. Before I purchased the bike there had been a lubrication failure so the bike needed new con-rods and crankshaft. The sludge traps were cleaned and then it was put back together. The magneto was also re-done just after the new year by a local BSA aficionado, who repairs old Lucas magnetos here in Denmark.

I have now ridden the bike about 500 km and am getting comfortable with the general operation and maintenance. I need to now fine tune/adjust replace the clutch.

Hi Madsens, I have just joined the BSA club of Denmark. I have become quite familiar with Palle from UK Bikes and Flemming, the Magneto expert out in Skovby/Galten.

The work on the big end was carried out by Chris Jensen, who is a fantastic mechanic, but not a specilasit when it comes to diagnosing British bikes.

Nice Super Rocket you have there!  I have a 1961 A-10 with the same headlight nacelle.  My friend brought it back from Scotland many years ago while he was serving there in the US Navy.  He stated that it was a Super Rocket, but the serial number was only partially readable, so I've never been able to prove whether it is a Flash or Super Rocket.  I've posed the question here before asking whether that type of headlight was ever offered on a Super Rocket (non-export maybe?).  It would be nice to finally put that question to bed.  Anyway, great bike!

Again I don't know enough about these machines to say, I thought the nacelle was typical of the super rocket, but what do I know!!! The serial number on the engine is of the high compression indicator (CA) i believe, and the frame is from the same year. I am pretty certain that the front brake is not original as is the front mud gaurd, which should have support to the front.

Very nice bike.
The engine number should be CA10R xxxx, and HHC denotes high compression
The front brake is TLS off the later A65 range, the front mudguard looks like the 1960 version.
Regarding the headlight nacelle this was introduced in 1958 and was standard throughout the range except when rev counter was fitted and headlight was separate unit. I think most export models of the Super Rocket were supplied with rev counter and separate headlight
