930/9 on my BSA A10 Plunger 54
« on: 18.03. 2015 08:45 »
Hi folks

I have trouble starting. When I bought motorcycle project followed a 930/9 amal carburator with which I then mounted and driving with last season. But I have had a lot of difficulties to start and is now in doubt whether it is the right model carburator for such a GF A10 Plunger 1954?
On the carburator house says RB 930/9, the main nozzle 180 and the slow jet 106th

If it is the right carburator model is fitted, it could then perhaps be the needle that is wrong? Someone who knows the needle fits in such a 930/9

All the best!
Soren

G'day Soren.
Wrong carb for your bike. 930's didn't start till about 1966.
It should have a 276 type 1-1/16", 170 main,6/4 slide,0.107 needle jet.

But forgot to add.
I have a 932 on my 51 A7. Starts 1st kick hot or cold. So your 930 should work OK. Needles and jets wear as do slides. Wrap a bit of PVC tape around the flange/ manifold joint and give it a try (eliminate air leak). Give it a good clean out, check the float needle is sealing, the slide should have no more than 0.2mm movement back & forth.
