Hello from a new member to this forum and the world of BSAs!
All my bikes up to now have been 1980s and onwards japanese and European stuff. I've always wanted an old Brit bike for a project. I borrowed a friend's Vincent Comet, which needed a clean up and the carb refurb'ing, but once I'd sorted it he needed it back not long after. So now I've jumped in with both feet and bought a bike.
Well, I say 'bike'.
What I mean is 'collection of rusty, grimy, cobweb-covered parts in cardboard boxes which were a bike a long time ago and maybe will be again'.
It was (and will be again!) a 1953 A10 plunger, complete with the original logbook. The engine and frame numbers match. And there the good news ends......
- The rims and spokes are junk, the hubs need machining as they are heavily rusted
- The carb, exhaust and seat are missing
- Just about all the nuts, bolts and studs are junk
- The tinware and tank all needs repainting
- All the wiring is junk
- All the cables are junk
- The pistons had seized and are now scrap
- The crank needs regrinding
But, in between moments of 'whathaveIdone', I'm really enjoying sorting it all out and planning the rebuild. I will be asking some numpty questions on here, I will try and search for the answers first in case someone else has already asked.
