A65 head wanted

Slightly off-topic, I know. I've just sussed that the new ally cylinder barrels for my A10 bobber could be drilled to take an A65 head. This would be better matched to the 3" bore size.
Anyone got one?

hi briz. i also liked the idea of fitting a a65 head to a bsa bottom end , but what about the different spacing at the camshaft? or would you grind down an a65 camshaft to suit?

I reckon an A65 cam could be fitted with just a bit of bush resizing.
I haven't yet machined the cam-follower holes in the barrels so spacing is no problem.
Also, the A65 cam being drilled thru makes it easier to cut & re-angle for a 90-degree crank. A rod up the middle would help alignment. It'd save about £350 for a billet cam.

hi briz, if you have the machinery then i guess anything is possible. i would like to fit an a65 crank to my a7 project for alternator conversion but who could bore out the cases for me?

Probably easier to turn the A65 timing side journal down to A10 size. Where abouts are you?

hi briz, i m near heathrow. the main problem is the mainbearing d/s i.d. is a larger diameter on the a65 crank hence a bigger bearing used. also it would be a shame to forsake the larger t/s bush as less sturdy than the a65 bush.

hi trev, would you suggest having a standard a10/7 bearing ground out slightly to fit? unfamiliar with grinding i never thought a machine shop would be able to open out the i. d.  but i m all ears?

 Better to grind out a bush than flick up a crank...!
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Hi Edboy. Modern standard carbide tool bits can easily machine bearing race grade steel but some sort of fixture would be needed to hold an inner race?

Ooh! Dunno! Assumed they were all 30mm. Wonder why they would have gone smaller?
If so, a sleeve could be easily turned.

1 1/8" is smaller than 30mm so no grinding out needed!

As regards the timing side, yes, probably better to bore the case to take the A65 bush. Better yet, do the roller conversion.

sorry i hijacked your advert brit. i do have a couple of a65 and a50 heads but believe they are seconds . it would also take a while to find the box they are in. so rainy day needed.

Not at all bothered if it needs a bit of work Ed. I can resurrect almost anything!
I should have added that it does need to be a twin-carb one.
Looked round Newark autojumble yesterday. Thin pickings. One single carb head there. Couldn't even find a A10 crank pinion!

these heads came from the states. their seconds are still low milage compared to anything over here. briz with the pound so high to the dollar its a great time to buy but import duty is a percentage of insured value. so take that into account briz.

Yeah; I get quite a bit of stuff from the US.
We're off over there in less than a month so might see if I can get one sent to the parts store in Wendover. Mike there very kindly lets racers use his shop as a delivery address.
