Welcome Andy!
Just wondering if your bike came from the southern hemisphere?  ;)

Remember, The only silly question is the one you dont ask.... and in the world of motorcycles, this usually results in your bike blowing itself to pieces!  :)

It was the final drive chain case that got me first. Wow, he’s running the drive on the other side I was thinking. Then realised it was an odd looking timing chest too. Duh.

Thanks for the comments. I am trying to find out exactly what I have bought now as the engine block seems to be older than the frame if I am not mistaken :).

Hi Andy,
its not really a matter of what you have, more a case of what you want.

If you want a bike that is "correct" in every detail and with "correct" numbers etc you may be dissapointed.

If you want a bike that looks good and is great to ride and you can have a lot of fun on then you should be very happy.

Although there are lots of differences between the models year by year just about everything is interchangable and underneath it all is the same basic 650cc twin.

I agree with Brian, the most important thing is that you a happy with what you have :)
Unless you are a collector or dealer it really isnt important that all parts are orignal... Parts wear out over time and are replaced with what is avaliable... Also, motorcyclists were just as much into customising thier ride back then as we are now :)
At the end of the day, these 650's arnt worth a heck of a lot even in original condition so have fun with what you have, and dont be afraid to change it up some more to make it a bike you are truely happy with :)
Have fun with it! :)

Thanks for that guys and you are right. I love the bike and it's looks and am not worried if it is not 100% tecnically correct or as it should be . It was more a case of  not having a clue what I am doing and want to make sure I am getting the correct spares and reading the correct specifications for the engine when I am trying to do anything as I don't know how much the engines, frames etc changed over the years :)

Yo Andy, I also reckon the main thing is to know and understand what you have so that as you say, when it comes time to buy replacements, you buy the bit that does the job to your satisfaction- whatever it is...!

 Enjoy it
