Hi all
Great and thanks to you all - But I have to report a sadness
TBH I was scouting about on t'web because on Sunday, I went out on the 1st season run with a mate and - BANG, after about 20 miles, it started to eat itself, and I am afraid Conrod the right has divorced the old p*ston slapper
as a result 'Pushy Rod' has turned bent, and the heavy metal has got really down
So - no lack of depression and 'Big Bill' has called again
Sigh!!!!

Hmmm, spent all the holiday money tonight and I have some new Conrods and Pistons on the way. Just the push rods to find.
Interesting though, apparently (despite about 15,000 miles on it after an SRM end feed conversion + a bottom end rebuild - Oh and thanks for the jokes in advance) the prognosis is that the conrod broke since the small end bearing, first stuck, then spun, got no oil because the oil hole did not match , in the end twisted, subsequently seized and in its death rage, twisted the small end off.
It looks like some daft beggar had not had it line reamed I am told
Don't worry Admin - Off to the tech section now!!
Double sigh.

On the possible bright side  *cry* new aftermarket rods like billet rods from thunder or srm do not have bushed small end bearings.....

Did the cases and barrel survive the blow up?

Hiya there Charlie, Welcome along- everyone loves a good story, but bad stories seem to last longer... *eek*

When I was seeking information, I saw a few forums which were 'ok', but this one kept coming up in results and had the most useful info, so I jumped in too....and hope it still as good..???

Good luck with the rebuild, and DON'T FORGET THE SLUDGE-TRAP

Thanks again everyone
unfortunately the lower skirt on the barrel is fractured. (but good news, the cases are OK)
I had a chat to SRM, and after the smelling salts, I have put my beloved 76 RD250 up for sale to fund it all
Looking forward to a good sludge trap clear-out though - Bedanke duTch

G'day Charlie, welcome.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. We all know the feeling. My A65 did the exact same thing just before Xmas.
Down here the sale of a RD250 would buy you a hole new motor *ex*. I'd rather sell the grand kids into slavery.
Best of luck with it.
Cheers
