Just joined!
« on: 07.04. 2014 22:50 »
Hello everyone.

I've just enrolled to the forum. I've got a '54 A10, with plunger frame. I've had it since the mid '80s, but it seized in 1979 and I bought it like that, and it's still in dire condition as I found it lying outside a house on the Worthing seafront covered by a bedsheet where it had rested for 7 years or so........

I started to dismantle it a long time ago, now I'm going to start again. To make matters worse, it's been residing in a lock up garage which was flooded by the Thames a few times over the past 10 years, including a couple of months ago, although only up to the wheel rims, fortunately. I know a little about mechanics, but not much about restoring bikes, so hope that anyone who can offer advice will be patient!

I'll post a photo when I can work out how to reduce the file size.

Steve,

Welcome!  That's a good introduction of yourself and the project. We look forward to the pictures and you certainly will get no shortage of advice and real help here (I certainly have over the years). We are obviously obsessed, just like you are about to become. My bike also sat outside for many years before the rebuild, but most certainly in easier conditions, that is, Los Angeles, California. The good thing is, when your's is done you'll be able to say, "survived two floods of the Thames to get here."

Hello Steve - you've found the right place here to support your next few year's toil.  The advice available is wide ranging, high quality and there's a good supply of it.
Some of us even live quite close to you.  Perhaps we'll soon see you at the Kempton autojumbles - a decent source of tools, consumables and occasionally also that elusive spare part.
Enjoy your rebuild!

Hello.

Kempton,
2 weeks ago.... Yep, I was there. last went about 20 years ago, it was only a couple of dozen stalls and a few in the hall under the grandstand. Last time it took 3 hours to get round!

G'day Steve,  *welcome*.
I'm sure you'll get all the help and encouragement you need here.
After surviving all those conditions for so long she deserves a nut & bolt rebuild.
I wish this place was around 30 odd years ago when I dragged my '51 out of a chook shed.
Cheers

Hi Steve and welcome, the A10 is a simple engine to build so shouldnt be any real problem for a mechanically minded person

Hello!

My good pal has given me instruction in sizing photos, so hopefully I can post the two pics of my A10 as it is currently.
I do have the complete bike, but at present, some of it resides in various boxes.

Congrats with the picture posting.

Just a few hours work + a little paint :O) (and a little help from the forum) and it'll be on the road.
Questions welcome, good luck.

G'day BB.
Nice job. Unless you plan on only riding on the local air strip I'd change the rear tyre and fix the primary leak. *roll*
Shame it's Summer over there. She'll be ready by Winter.
Now you've got the pics resized you can put a few in one post. See more attachments.
Best of luck with her. Ask all the ??? you like in the appropriate sections.
Cheers

BB,

I think Muskrat just through down the gauntlet. That would be very impressive if your restoration is complete in six months.

Hello, Manosound.

Sadly, I'm not noted for doing anything very quickly, but who knows? I don't want boxes of bits about for longer than is necessary.
