still hoping to find some genuine original hepolite pistons, NOS or good used ones thanks,

up to now not met anyone who has usedd these new reproduction hepolite pistons, so have no info on their suitability.

have always steered clear of anything 'wassel'

Steve,
Why do you think that old Hepolite pistons are any better than modern manufacture pistons?

Steve,
I based my question on your request for "genuine" Hepolite pistons  or "good used ones".
I think that you don't want the "new" Hepolites which are apparently marketed by Wassell but the "old" ones made by Hepolite themselves.
Over the years I have used Hepolites and am currently using GPM in a Rocket and "unknown Taiwanese" in a Flash.
I feel that both are as good if not better than the original Hepolite.

Yeah Bill,
Maybe something was lost in the translation from Aussie to Pommy English.
Looking for old pistons can be looking for the Holy Grail. And when you find them and use them you find why they aren't made anymore.

Hi Steve,  I have a pair of original +40 Hepolite Pistons that did 10 miles in my motor before a crank failure caused a bottom end rebuild and because there was still a bit of rust pitting in the bore after the original honing I decided to go to +60 and new pistons. Each have AE11412 and 3568 AM 413 cast inside and measure 2.791" at the base of the skirt. I am in Melbourne Australia. Forgot to mention that they are High Comp for a Road Rocket.

have used modern hepolite pistons in a t120 Triumph not had a problem and dont expect to, you could be buying trouble on something thats been used and dont know the age or way fitted and runin.  just my opinion fwiw

Using old pistons is a choice thing I guess but in case it is relevant to making that choice here is some info on piston weights from a post I once did on crank balancing. In short I found that older pistons were not necessarily lighter than JP pistons, which I guess Are made in relativel low volums in aussie.

"The next job was to weigh the piston components.I measured a few pistons to gauge whether the JP pistons I had bought were likely to be significantly heavier than the OEM.

The results of measuring are below.

Desc                                   Weight (grams)     Comment
========                             =========      ===========
Bare Piston JP brand 7.25:1          256             Bare means no pin, rings, clips
JP Pin                                         78               Not tapered ID, 0.475' ID
JP set 3 rings                               25
JP clips x 2                                  1.5
Bare BSA piston flat +060 bore      261             Its "partner" weighed 258 grams
