The new forum
« on: 08.02. 2014 20:31 »
So, here we go with a new look and some new possibilities, but most should be very familiar.

The changes are not mainly the visible ones, the whole internals of the forum 'engine' have been changed, to comply with forthcoming changes to browsers, the internet, security, server software etc.

Please report any findings that may need attention or explanation.

Thanks

Am seeing the avatars fine here (also on another test pc when logged in as a test user).

Check your profile > Look and Layout  there's a "Don't show users' avatars." function, should not have ticked itself on, but tell me what you find.

Edit: after some checks: there are avatar problems with Internet Explorer. Will look into it

Testing your avatar as attachment, all avatars definitely on the server (showing fine in FF) but internet explorer (9 & 11 here) refuses to show some. Mystery.

Fixed gavinoz's (& my own) avatar to show in IE, but have to investigate further for the IE problems.

^^^ thanks for the report. But some problems with large avatars > See http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=8053.msg56644;topicseen#msg56644

About the looks, I hope everyone will find it OK, but (if there is demand from many) I can provide the old looks (theme) as an option.

^^^ Thanks. Looks like things works well after the 'engine rebuild'. Am sorting out some details. Will do a few adjustments and add some features over time, but first making sure all basic functions are reliable.

So, all well out there? (I guess 'no news is good news').

Things works fine from here. Remains to fix the design (top of page, logo\forum name) and add a few extra features, will take on that task after a burn-in period with the new software.

Thanks
e.

Not a biggy but if it's possible could you add a blank line beneath 'Show unread posts since last visit'. I usually access the forum from my tablet and it's tricky hitting that link with my stumpy fingers. I often hit the link below.

Very valid point about the small size\closeness of those two links. I've given the job to Vernon Scripps and David to fix. May take some time.

Thanks, that was important to know.
