For what I need the battery?

To provide a stable power supply at standstill, idle and low rpm (for example security in the dark, having good lights\stoplight\horn at low speed or stopping in a tunnel, engine trouble gets one stuck at night at a dangerous piece of road etc).

And of course, the fun of making charging and dynamo work properly and looking at the ammeter instead of the road while driving.
