New bloke
« on: 23.11. 2013 21:40 »
 Hi ,
New here but long time A10 rider. 54 gs sa frame,61 motor.Bought from a friend nearly 30 yrs ago-I really liked the scrambles tank  and the rrt2 box -rode it home for £ 375.Over the years it has been modified and is a long way from standard but does leak oil in the traditional manner. After being off the road for a few years I got it going again this summer and found it needs a few things  sorting. so lots to do over winter.

I did sell the close box some time back, sadly before prices went daft but got more than I paid for the bike. The bike is more fun with a std box especially in slow traffic where a rrt2 is an utter pain.
Most of the mods are either experimental or the  result of refusing to pay good money for bad parts. If you're not fussed about originality it makes sense to use more modern stuff.
The wheels, brakes and forks are suzuki and the bits that hold them to the frame homemade.
Crankcases are A7[blew the originals] with the bearing oilfeed mod. This mod has been modded so a filter sits between the pump and crank.
Crank is a Nourish billet job 360 degree with Nourish rods and pistons 73mm[700cc].
Can't remember if the oil pump is steel or cast iron.
Timing gears drilled and lightened, spitfire cam.
Head has squish bathtub chamber and ex port have tubes welded in to fix a [non leakingpipe to].Also trying an alternative head steady mount.
Modded the twin carb mod to do away with the flanges and go rubber and make PWKs easier to fit.
Boyer ignition and 3ph alternator.

Well that is a bike with interesting variations here and there, from comments from others I understand the benefits of NOT following fashion as far as RRT2 goes.
Kind of smacks of my own Rocket Gold Flash but you've gone further here and there.
There is someone here who did make a better head steady, do a search for "head steady" and you should find it  (I'd find it and include a link but my broadband is down to 0.129 download speed  - yes that is zero point 129).
I had an idea to use a mini engine steady but think his was neater, ( as with most of my ideas they struggle to get from head to finger tips )

The head steady in question was by john (chaterlea25). I always remember this because I still plan to copy it.

Oh you naughty naughty boy. I love it.
The breather looks like it will vent well. What is the other tube from the box?
I'm using twin PWK's rubber mounted too.
What breed of pistons are in her to match the head.
Nice work.
Cheers

Manosound-That's interesting, similar to car engine. If my idea dosen't work I'll try it.
Muskrat- Oh I've been sussed- I am a naughty boy.The pistons are forged omegas from Dave Nourish and come with unmachined crown which is handy. The other tube to the gearbox is a Ktm front brake line-this connects the Ducati master cyl to the Ducati slave cyl  in the gearbox cover.
Ethelred-it does stop and handle really well.Used to do a few sprints with it.Best ss1/4 time was 14.1 @88mph as in the pic with std box.It has done14.4 @96mph with rrt2 and clip ons.
 Briz-Im near Downham Market.
