1962 RGS title says GSS
« on: 01.10. 2013 21:20 »
I posted a maybe will sell my 62 about a month ago, and not one of you guys even Inquired or made an offer of any kind.  The only person that responded was our moderator Musky, and he said don't do it, once gone it is gone forever !!!!  Well even if I do not sell it, I still would like to find out what you guys think the value of the bike might be, so someone take a look at the third bike down on the  GSS spitfires page in the service literature section, and please give me an Idea of what it might be worth.

  THANKS MUCH

Sorry you didn't get a reply Bill. Maybe people were like me, a bit stumped. (I hope its the right bike: the red chop: otherwise forgive me) Price in the custom market is hard to judge. The bike below it made US$19000 in 2011.
An unrestored RGS race modified (belt primary drive) and partially disassembled over here in Aus, at auction in the bush, made A$18000 a few months ago.
So I wont guess at all, but didn't want you to feel lonely!!

Bill it concerns me that your mail suggests you are aggrieved in some way
I'm with Gav, just too difficult too say and so easy to cause offense if your valuation falls below whats expected . best look at auction sites and take an average, it's all based on demand that varies.
I also tend to think Muskrat#s comment is a good one

A lot of people have inflated ideas of what their bikes are worth. The best guide is ebay as there you can see what real people are actually prepared to pay for them. Trawl all the dealer websites as well but remember some of their bikes are in stock for a long time so have to be priced accordingly.
It's worth what someone will pay, a truism I know, but often forgotten.
How much do you want for it?

I think the simple explanation is everyone (most) here already has a bike or two to take care of, but you never know who reads the posts it so it's good to post here. Also advertise it in some of the magazines.
Good luck, either in keeping it or selling it.

Hi Bill,
There have been a few similar postings of members considering selling their bikes, the general consensus from the members replies seems to encourage the owners to hang onto their bikes!!
Members dont seem to be pushy or forward in asking "how much" (or maybe they do by PM ??)

I think that your location inthe USA is remote from most other Forum members,
There seems to be only a few active members over there,?
With RGS models seeming to command big $$$$ I think few would be willing to buy without seeing the bike up close and personal ??
Shipping and all its complications will also add to the final costs
The custom styling mayl also put off the "catalog" enthuasist ??

My 2 cents worth
Regards
John
