Cush drive spring length
« on: 25.09. 2013 01:10 »
Greetings

Can anyone please tell me the correct length of cush drive spring before it is fitted

The one that came on the bike when I stripped her down is 1 7/8 inch long

I've received a new one from one of my dependable suppliers which is 1 1/2 inch long,  a little bit chunkier but fits in every other way  *conf*

Any wisdom is, as always, much appreciated

Cheers

Scotty

I think I've discovered that the 1.5 inch length spring is to short as the crank nut bottoms out against slined sleeve and  I can't achieve 65 ft lb on the crank nut  *eek*

Longer cush spring it will be

Cheers any way

Hi Morris,
I never bother with the lockwasher, use some threadlock instead  *smile*

Many thanks john

i followed the other thread as per your advice.

All buttoned up to 65ft lb and the the SRM hex cush nut is loc tited and butted up against sleeve leaving a 1 1/8 compressed cush drive spring

All appears to be  good in the 'hood  ;)

thanks for the help

Agree. It definitely needs something to hold the nut on.
Luckily one of the first things I did on mine was taking off the primary cover. The nut had worked itself loose, and already started chewing the inside of the cover, only held on by a piece of stripped electrical cable through the split pin hole. Some people..... *sad2*

that lock washer is not one of the best deigned and the split pin is often nowhere to be seen hence the number of primary case with neat circles worn opposite the cushdrive
