IS For Sale 1962 GSS BEST OFFERS
« on: 07.09. 2013 00:33 »
I am  selling my 1962 Rocket Gold Star Scrambler, there is some discussion if it is an RGS or GSS model.  Was dispatched June of 1962 to Hap Alzina. Has the big valve Super Rocket Motor, stamped HHC, alloy head , single carb, Transmission stamped  A-SC-T.  I just want to see if there is any Interest here on the forum, with the guys that deserve first crack at it, before I go to the (HATED BY ME) "FLEA BAY", and put a reserve on it.

I'm sorry to hear you may sell it Bill, once it's gone it's gone. Why? You can't say your too old (that just doesn't happen).
Thanks for giving forum members 1st crack. I would suggest PM's to discuss $.
Post a picture or two.

Hi Bill, thanks for the Super Flash info. I don`t seem to be able to reply directly to your message so I hope you see this. Your RGS , Gold Star  Spitfire looks interesting but my funds are quite limited these days. I am building a new workshop so that is soaking up most of my spare cash for at least the next 2 years. Several years ago I would have jumped at the chance but these days I am trying to avoid taking on any new projects . It sure is tempting to see one that is in rideable condition, and close to home as well.

Why does the add say
Gold Star Spitfire History

"All Rocket Gold Stars have the frame number prefixed with GA10 except for the first two test machines. The first one which was dispatched on 31st January 1962 with frame number GA7.12925 was fitted with engine number A10R.6380.  Production began in February 1962 and the first bike, frame number GA10 101 was dispatched to BSA New Jersey on 16th February 1962.  It was finished in red. There were 1584 bikes made of which 272 were

This is not true CA7A*** was the first frame numbers in 1957

Having recently bought a replica of a Spitfire scrambler I've become interested in their history so thought I'd add my bit here...apologies if its common knowledge!!
First built in 1957 with a ordinary frame but with the pillion loops left off, gold star type hubs, SCT box, ca10 engine with alloy head, 9;1 cr and 357 cam, no lights or speedo and low pipes without silencers. 342 were made all with the A suffix on the frame number and all exported to the US.
So, in many ways the ancestor of the RGS but as far as I know they were never actually called Gold Star Spitfire Scrambler just Spitfire Scrambler.
BSA continued to make them after 1957 but with full width hubs etc until the introduction of the RGS and the off road version of that was called the Gold Star Spitfire Scrambler...
Good luck if you decide to sell Bill....hope it gets a good home and hope you don't miss it too much!
