Somehow they grabbed the spirit and put it in a new and exiting jacket!

I always have an old valve radio on when I'm fettling in the shed (Radio Two) and heard an old song that I had to Shazam (an app that recognises songs) a particular track that I'd never known who sung it. I only remember a comedy duo singing it during the late seventies. (Lenny Bennett & Jerry Stevens) What a revelation! to hear this song by the original singer...his wife wrote the lyrics that's gotta be the cheesiest you've heard.... Now... your going to have a song playing in your head that you won't be able to shift.... Ready? https://youtu.be/qnxoTCvklKQ

That's not a radio - they have transistors. If it's got valves then it is a wireless  ;)

Ah yes but you can probably still get Radio Luxembourg on that, and Journey into space, will have just missed the TT with Duke.

Seriously tho old valve radios had a warmth about them, a few crackles and fades also.

Russian troops were using valves long after ours went to Transistors, then we found out about a thing called EMP
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

If you tune in to BBC Radio 4 Extra you can listen to old stuff all day long. I've modified my parent's old valve 'Wireless' so I can plug it into a modern sound source. Rado 4Extra sounds great coming out the old bakelite case!

"Ten forward gears and a sweet Georgia overdrive" - love it! Wonder if that will fit on the Super Rocket  *smile*

lawnmowermman - just the sort of music I like. Can't stand this modern so-called 'rock n roll'. Give me the 50's and 60's and the rocker era. Ah, those were the days.
Whenever 'in the mood' for riding / driving (or before a race when I used to compete) I like to hear a good solid beat. Dead ringer for Love (ML), I'm on fire (Jerry Lee), Travellin Band, Promised Land (Elvis), Morning Dew (Nazareth), Cover of the rolling stone (Dr Hook). Something that pumps you up. The list is endless ....

Great call on the Nazareth track! What does it for me at the mo is JJ Cale's " call me the breeze"

*smile* Played it "a miilion" times in the 70's. Only complaint, the songs could last longer...
