Dynamo kits on ebay

I think I need to freshen up my dynamo, (finally got it working, problem turned out to be simply a brush connector shorting out.
- Has anyone used one of these ebay reco kits?

Just wondering about the quality, or maybe there's a better option in Oz?
Cheers,
Jools

IME the fields don't fail that often, and (in theory at least) they need a special expander to fit although I know people have managed without.
My 2d worth would be to just replace what's needed.

Looks like the same kit I got from Hawker Electrical for both of my A's. Easy install, worked as should for a few years now.
Cheers

Well, the complete kit including Field coil, brushes, bearings etc is only A$40 more than just an armature alone, so it seems a good idea to do the whole thing. (Making an expander tool shouldn't be a big deal).

Jools,
If your generator is working OK, why do you want to spend money on new parts?
A set of bearings & brushes is far cheaper than the whole kit.
No need for an expander to fit field coils, just tighten with a large screwdriver as far as possible then nip up with an impact driver.
Best to grind a bit to closely fit the screw slot.
When I overhaul them I replace the slotted screw with a socket head screw which is tightened with an Allen key.

I bought one of them kits and went for the 12volt conversion. Fitting it without an expander was easy enough and I will tell you what its like if I can ever get the damned thing to start lol

Nup Trev, it's NOT working okay. The output is weak, -needs too many revs to balance the lights.
I'm running a JG 12v conversion, and I know that they need plenty of revs to 'kick in'. I need to run the bike more to know.
