Alloy head wanted.
« on: 07.04. 2013 22:41 »
Yeah; I know. Holy grail these days!
But we need one for our Land-speed Bonneville project.
A7, A10, broken fins, corrosion, other damage. Anything considered.
A pristine one seems to fetch £300 or so these days (according to the bloke at Newark today who had 3 of them) But we dont want pristine, we don't want to spoil something that a restorer could use, 'cos we're going to have to do some mods on it.
Any help gratefully received.

You might have an outside chance phoning S.R.M. Any old heads and barrells that are beyond economical repair, they keep, and use the fins for repairs. I was there back end of last summer but everything was iron in the pile, but you never know what's come in since.
I'm assuming you will be doing a major job on it, so normal  'beyond economical repair'  will not apply in this case.

I've got a A7 twin carb head here that needs a bit of work. Missing the top fin on both sides and one valve guide hole is very oversize. I doubt if I'll ever get around tuit. Got anything to swap for it? eg 4 spring clutch, A65 tank.
Cheers

Sounds ideal; except for the distance!
Dont have anything to trade, wish I'd kept hold of all the junk I had years ago. *doh* It'd have to be money.
Wonder what the postage to the UK would be?

G'day Briz, here are some pics. The r/h guide hole is about 50 thou oversize, the others are OK. Threads are good and gasket surfaces are OK. As I said top fin missing both sides, all others OK.
Cheers

How about I donate my complete 4 spring clutch with SRM conversion cover plate to the LSR project and then you can swap it for the head?
Woll need a sprocket riveted to it otherwise all ready to install.

Sound good?

Will get it over to Briz next week if the deal's a goer?

I reckon that head will do nicely Muskrat.

Julian, I'm blown away with your generosity, and your enthusiasm for our project is most heartening!
If Muskrat's OK with this, its a goer.
You can consider yourself an official team sponsor- be sure to include LMB racing stickers!

Just shows what a great place we have here.

Dont need slugs mate. We're figuring on using forged Wiseco GS1000 ones. Going for a 73mm bore.
Yeah! it is a damn good place here isn't it! *smile*

Great news!

Muskrat, I think it's fastest and easiest to send your address direct to me and I will TNT the clutch out to you direct!
Is there a good way to label it in order to make sure you are not charged import duty etc?
Present?  returned item etc?  can you check.

Best regards to you both,  its great when we can all club together and help one another!
We take info for granted but to be honest, the wealth of info you can gain from a great place like this is the bigest prize!

Julian

Briz,
Let me have your address too and I will pop over when I'm next in the area. (or close)
