Valuation?
« on: 05.04. 2013 12:00 »
Yo dudes!
I need to get an agreed valuation for my bikes insurance, (Footman James). I've been informed by the BSA Owners Club that they do not provide a valuation service! Does anyone here have advice about getting a valuation done on a classic bike?

When I did this for my insurance (Peter Best Insurance) I just used a top price from some EBay sales for similar bikes and then used that (sent printout from ended listings) which they have accepted, do other insurers require some sort of professional valuation.

I did much the same with Peter James, just took an average from similar bikes for sale in mags, I actually upgraded them last year  (4.500 each), don't think there's much hassle really provided your not in the land of fantasy prices.
Interestingly they now don't require pictures of the bikes, suppose it's all to do with number of claims and risks involved
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

I'm with Peter James as well (lovely people to deal with) and had a similar experience to Bill. I believe that if you want more than £5,000 they do ask for a valuation but give them a ring and ask.

I valued the A7 At £6000 (just restored) as there where some on ebay from dealers at or around that values last autumn + the dealer adverts in the magazines. It was a high price but I if the worst happened I would want a very good replacement from a dealer.
I valued the A10 at £5500 as it was a bit special and again based on dealer prices for a good original bike.
The G80 I valued at £2700 which was what I paid for it.
