I've just modified a Triumph side stand for my plunger A10. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Ask me if you would like details of what I did.

John, You did not say whether the stand you wanted was for plunger or swing arm. Burton Bike Bits have them for swing arm frames (very expensive though) and I know that a while back C&D Autos also had them. That is where I got mine from.

 This is the stand I bought. The pivotted forked end has the correct width for the original frame lug. The bolt nut and spring are all ok. I had to grind off metal from the lower cheek of the pivot fork to clear the spring anchoring pin on the bike frame. To improve bike stability I filed away some metal from the stop area of the new stand and also reluctantly had to take my angle grinder to the bikes forward stop pad so the new stand pointed slightly forward when in use. The stand is too long; it only needs to be about 9" so I cut the leg off at a suitable angle and welded a disk to the end. The stand doesn't touch the exhaust pipe when raised. The metal was tough to hack-saw. I believe it to be a forging.

Cake Street Classics do a pattern one for an A10 swinging arm frame and the price is not that bad, about £37 I think I paid and it fits. It includes the half clamp.

not familiar with plunger frame Neil, is it more than just frame tube dimensions as Lyford (and others I presume) do sidestands ion about four tube sizes

I wanted a side stand that would fit to the existing lug that is brazed on the plunger frame. It's not a half a saddle; it's the fixed part of the stand pivot. I didn't want a clamp-on type.

I have a half memory that the side stand off an A65 or T140V can be adapted pretty easily to fit the plunger frame that has the lug already welded on it. I am fairly sure that's what I did anyway but cant check cos that bike is in bits at the back of the workshop lol

Whatever you do, avoid the clamp on type.
Mine came with one, and it was on until the day I just caught the bike from falling over when the clamp slid on the frame.
That stand is now probably part of a sewer cover, or a cast iron dustbin or whatever..... That 'll teach him!

 I know that feeling morris. It's still on there but with a tack of weld for good measure.
