C11 19 inch rims
« on: 04.02. 2013 09:12 »
Morning!

Not A7/A10 related, but maybe someone can help:
I'm looking for a set of 19 inch rims (WM2x19) for a 1948 C11 (rigid frame, originally equipped with WM1x20). Any ideas  what could be fit? Bare steel would be ideal, as the wheels will be powder coated.

Thanks and atb, Markus

Central Wheel Components (Birmingham, UK) list bright steel rims that could be what you are looking for.

Hi Markus,

I realise that you pretty well know your way around the bikes so I'm sure that you realise that the angles of the holes need to be correct and any 19inch rim wouldn't be ok for you.

According to the Roy Bacon book of the Gold Star and Other Singles the 1938 to 1953 C10 models used WM1x19inch rims both front and rear whilst the C11 of the same priod used WM1x20.  If my memory serves me correctly and both models shared the same frame and forks, the rims from a rigid C10 will be the ones you are looking for.

Maybe a company like the Central Wheel Co. will be able to confirm this.

Good luck,

Beezageezauk.

Thanks guys!

Yep, I'm aware that I need the correct dimpling and drilling pattern, that's why I asked. Only source for C11 rims I could find so far are Draganfly, but they don't have them in stock, they are chromed, and it doesn't say whether they are 19 or 20 inch. So I thought I'd ask the forum, maybe someone has gone through that before and found rims off another model that fit, you never know...

I have however dropped Central Wheel an email, they seem to be a good address, thanks for the link!

Cheers, Markus

PS: I'd need matching spokes as well  *dunno2* *doh*

Thank you Beezageeza, Draganfly list the same rims for the C10 and C11 rigid models for 1947-1953 indeed. Whether this means they are 19" or 20" rims I don't know though. Guess I will drop them a note.
Next problem is, matey wants to use 3.50x19 tyres, which means we'll need WM2 rims, en lieu the original WM1....  *problem*

Hi Markus,
I have just hada BSA "C" front wheel built by "Brickwoood Wheelbuilders"

Address:
Old Brickwood Farm
Salisbury
Wiltshire
SP5 3RN
 01722 712 701
 Fax: 01722 712 503

They punch and dimple each rim to suit its application, before chroming or painting, resulting in a much better job  *smile*

The wheel I had built was then powder coated black, as that is what I wanted, Its going to be fitted to a BSA L25 which had a dummy rim "brake"  *eek*

I have also found taper roller bearings that are a direct replacement for the cup/cone bearings
11590 / 11520  sold as "trailer wheel bearings" if you want them cheap???

HTH

Thanks for all the info gents!
Central Wheels can supply what I need, good people. Looks like I'm sorted.

Thanks for the offer on the wheel bearings, John. I'll ask the owner whether he fancies an upgrade.

Cheers to all!
