WTB top yoke 42-5036 and sliders
« on: 02.02. 2013 20:45 »
Hello,

I'm looking for the proper top yoke (triple tree) for my 1957 BSA Clipper rebuild - part number 42-5036 would be ideal plus the sliders to suit the 7" front brake - part numbers 65-5408 and 65-5410.

Can anyone help please?? If you can help me put another BSA on the road please email me at alangduffy@btinternet.com

Cheers

Alan

Hello Alan
I am also restoring a 1957 Alloy Clipper.  I think the top yolk is the same for all the A and B series.  I dont have a proper parts book.  I am just using a goldie parts book.  I mighr have a pair of extra fork sliders but I need to get further on in my restoration.  Drop me a line if you want to talk clippers.  Jeff

Hi Jeff,
What a coincidence! Could you drop me an email and we can chat all things Clippers off line and avoid boring the rest of the forum!!

I've got the 42-5035 version of the yoke in the A7 I'm building (plus the one that came with the bike), which is very close to being finished...at last. The difference is that the 42-5035 has the steering lock whereas the 42-5036 is the same except for no steering lock/hole. I believe this is the same as the one on the 1957 A10RR.

I'm not usually so anarakish about bikes but this one has got under my skin as it looks good, is rare and as such deserves some attention to detail and most importatntly I think it'll be fun to ride.

If anyone has the yoke and the sliders for sale I'll be your best pal!

Cheers

Alan,
I think that you are mistaken with your top yoke part numbers.
the 42-5035/36 is the same animal, one being the casting number and the other the finished article.
The one that you want is 42-5010 which was also used on the 1954 A & B bikes.
The 1957 RR should have a steering lock as all A7/10s did from 1955, except the RGS.

Hi Trev,

According to the parts book I have for this model (1957 B34A All Alloy Competition Clipper) the top yoke is definetaly 42-5036 (without the steering lock) and the yoke part number is 42-5035 for the version with the steering lock.

I have the 42-5035 yoke but need the same beast without the steering lock. The 42-5010 is for a 1954 B31/33 top yoke and no doubts it may have doubled for some of the later A10 variants...but I dont know. Looking at a photo on Google of the 42-5010 it would do nicely althought the casting/part number would be wrong. If I could get one of these it would do the job and I'm guessing that nobody would notice...if somebody did I would class them as sad! lol

That all said  - still need the one without the steering lock hole whether it be a 42-5036 or 42-5010!

Anybody able to rumage around their parts bins and be able to assist???

Cheers

Alan

Thanks Jeff...the mystery deepens (lol). I'm not fussy - I would settle for either!!!

Alan,
I must modify my statement regarding yoke 42-5035/5036.
I was incorrect stating that one was a casting number.
Having checked the parts book and finding both listed, 5035 for A group and 5036 for Road Rocket, they are the same casting but the difference being the Road Rocket part is drilled for the instrument bracket hence a different part number.
As far as I know, Goldstars always used 42-5010.
I suppose the answer in your case depends whether your frame ever had or has the lock receptacle on the headstock.
