Stuck slide
« on: 17.01. 2013 12:41 »
Hi Fellas,

I just finally got my hands on a 10TT9 for my Road Rocket.  The problem is that the slide is stuck.  What is the best/safest way to free the slide without damage?

Thanks in advance,

Heat, cold, oil, solvent + patience & gentle manipulation :O)

Example, soak it with thin oil\wd40, heat the carb body (expand), pour (ice)cold water on the slide (contract), give the slide a few soft shocks. Repeat a few times. Unless it's totally corroded\damaged it'll get loose.

After getting it out, gently polish the slide & carb surfaces.

Thanks A10GF for the feedback.  What do you use to heat the body?  I wonder if a hair dryer on high might be enough?  I'd hate to warp the carb body!

Unless it has corrroded into the body, a stuck side usually is because the body is warped.
Hair drier is good, hot air gun is better.
Try boiling the carb in a big pot of water with a couple of dishwasher tablets ( the one with the little ball in the middle seem to work best ).
Thus you will be doing two thigs at once.
Cleaning the carb and freeing the slide.
A gentle rolling boil will work best.
rinse off when finished into clean boiling water twice.

Thanks BSA54-A10.  I hope the body isn't warped, as you can imagine I had to pay a premium to get the carb!  I may soak it in carb cleaner first to see if it is just gummed up old fuel residue holding it.  Appreciate the suggestions guys!
