My Plunger 54 basketcase projekt - DONE!
« on: 07.01. 2013 08:21 »
Okay, here is my project I have been working on from time to time over the last 2 years.
Here are some pictures from the process.

Status now is that I have painted everything. The last 2 saturdays, my dad and I have been working on the motor and so far everything is going great :)

I will try to post pictures as the project moves forward :)

Great to see Soren. Patience makes perfection easier. Keep us informed.
I wish I had done a photo record of some of my builds, some would have been XXX.
Cheers

Thanks a lot  ;)

I glad you like it so far :) I have ordered a bunch of parts at Draganfly last weekend and cant wait to
get my hands on the package :)

If the package do not arrive before this weekend we will go on with assembly of the fork and hopefully make it
stand on its own...hopefully :) I have learned that good things take time :)

Yeah, Muskrat....could have been great to see some of your builds. I also love following other peoples projects, it is very inspiring.

And I will definitely keep posting pictures in here, so keep following this thread for more :)

Sure does not seem like a basketcase anymore! Excellent work and photos. Was just thinking that more 'work on progress' topics would be nice, and yours appeared. Thanks for posting.

ps, made the photos into thumbnails. Reasons, see here and here. Check with your photo hosting about how to get clickable thumbnails for forum use. Thanks.

Hi, very impressed with the job so far, I am next month looking into spraying my 52 Plunger it is all sand blasted and prepped and I am trying to decide what paint type to use. I read on the forum about powder spraying and 2 pack spraying but could I just ask what you have chosen. I live in Spain so I looking at a paint that will also not fade easily in the hot sun. Then of course when I decide I will have 2 get through a langage barrier with my Spanglish to convince a sprayer!!!

Any help would be appreciated

@ a10gf
Thanks a lot :) no I dont either think of it as a basketcase, but it sure was in the beginning. it's coming along very nice at the moment and for the first time in 2 years we really feel that the project is moving forward. So many auctions on the Bay and so little won :) Hours of starring at the computer to find the missing pieces. And buying used parts that where better of in the dumbster. But now it's moving :)

And sorry about the images, I will make sure that they are attached properly the next time :)

@bikemadinspain
Thanks a lot :)
Looking forward to see some pictures of your work in progress in here :)
The rims are blasted and painted at the local truck painter :) He give the rims some semigloss paint that normally is used for trucks and has more strength when it comes to stonechips and other sharp things.

20 years ago I worked as a spraypainter, painting shop interiors. I did that for a year and moved on and started studying. So when I now got the opportunity, I thought that it would be great to paint my own project, and so I did....havent used a spraygun for 20 years and not a single slip :)
My brother and his partner owns a motorcycleshop and workshop here in Denmark and they also have a sprayboth. I spray with ordinary paint as you use for cars and such. He did mix to much paint (thxs Rune:)) so I gave it 4-5 coats of deep black paint and used no clear in the end.
I really hope that you will find a proper painter in spain that can help you along. Please make a thread in here and post pictures of your progress so we can follow :) Good luck from denmark :)

Are you using thick flange barrels its a bit hard to tell from the pics. Those pistons are a little bit too high compression for thin flange.
cheers Terry

Thanks for the info about the paint, I think you are a very lucky man, you have the knowledge and the family with a bike shop (wet dream come true!!) I have well erm me and erm me!! the nearest bike shop is about 40 miles away and he sells Spanish mopeds!!! the nearest paint shop is, god knows where at the moment.

Also do you khow much paint I will need to do the job, do you think 1000ml is enough?

I have just visited the draganfly sight, again thanks for the info, and priced it up, £82.00 with P & P to Spain.  It tells me an undercoat is not required, but is it not necessary on the tinware! or some type of hard seal....

Many thanks

Great work Soren. You should be very proud. I do like the bobber look.
My only concern is that the rear tyre may rub the guard over sudden bumps.
Cheers.
