Hello everyone, I'm due to change the carburettor on my 1962 a10 flash it has the late cast iron head and standard valves, I'm running 9:1 compression pistons non baffled silencers original type air filter and have a 928 concentric with a 106 needle jet, 230 mains, and 3.5 slide performance and reliability wise do i purchase a 389 monobloc 1 1/8 inch as original or a 930 concentric or stick to another 928 would the 930 give me a bit more torque and would i have to change anything to compensate for the extra 2mm or is the 928 restricting the bike?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I'm honestly stuck trying to decide and want together the flash running nice for the summer

In general, a bigger choke size will give more top end but gas flow will be poorer at lower speeds - so if you want torque I'd stick to the 11/8". In any case, the inlet passages on an iron head aren't big enough for a bigger carb.

Give  consideration to fitting a Mikuni, you would not regret it.

Stay with the Monobloc, when properly cleaned, and set up, they are the best and simplest to maintain of any carby..  They are not only original to the bike, but they also look much better..  Once you understand the overlap in the different jettings, and get it right by doing plug chops, this carby is trouble free, and very easy and simple to work on.  My 62 BSA Rocket Gold Star sat for seven years , because I was too lazy to take the head off and aneal the solid copper gasket (THE ONLY GSKT TO HAVE !!) , and re-torque the head back down.  (Also some books say to torque  alloy heads to 32 LBS). Do not do this, it distorts the head !!!!  and causes leaks.  I settled on 27 U. S. foot LBS,  works great.  Long story short, I never even took the float bowl cover off of the carb, just put fresh high test 92 octane  in and started it up. That was 2006, still have not had the float bowl cover off, and it sat for 7 years with no gas in it, ( evaporated ) and have had no Monobloc carb problems at all.  Just put gas in and went ,  been wenting  for 6 years without ever opening carby up, so you  see these are amazing carburetors when they are right. !!!!  ( EVEN AFTER SITTING IN AN OUTDOOR SHED ALL OF THAT TIME !! )

Elaborate for this rookie - what is a "plug chop"?

What is your take on the new Amal "Premium" carb? 

What is your take on the Amal 276 series carbs?  I really like the look of that carb w/the standoff float bowl.

I prefer the concentrics. Had a 276 on the '51 A7 when I got it 30 years ago but swapped to a concentric as I didn't know anything about them and this place (forum) was 20 odd years away! I do like the look of them (276) now.

I fitted a brand new amal 276 on my es2 and the bike now runs great. Not sure how it'll last thought only time will tell.
