Hi fella's, I began to wonder why every quadrant I saw on eBay had the first tooth missing, I was thinking the cheeky sod's trying to sell a knackerd quadrant. Feel a bit dumb now, oh well you live and you learn.
Hey bill good idea about the endoscope but like you say it I'll prob not do it when I want it to. I'll put the endoscope away, take the bike for a ride, cut out at a junction go to kick it and that's when it I'll do it.

Hi Guys,  Now mine's back happening,I'm slowly reliving my past lives, but from memory, this and my R.Rocket did all the same stuff, fairly sure we covered this not so long ago, but and as 'Ethelred' said slip it into gear and rock it (rocket or not), ok movin on- I also think if you just pull in the clutch and kick it or just roll it, sometimes works- still working on that one, cheers duTch

Oh yeah JSF welcome along and all that, good to see yea have a bit of 'ole man' cohesion-, that funny noise from the chain may be a connecting link catching,(?), as mine is because I have a A65 type sprocket access cover behind the clutch, and the conn-link catches on one of the 6 cover screws, no drama, but something to deal with in the scheme of things....cheers
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Hello again!

Following my first post I wanted to update that I've now managed a good few hundred miles and just come back from the Isle of Man on the a10 which I'm sure wouldn't have been possible without the helpful folk on here!  Also hello to Rocket Erik who I briefly met outside Jason Griffiths motorcycles at the Manx (buying hydraulic fluid for the Suzuki accompanying me on the Beezer) Hope you had a safe trip home!

Bike is running great (crosses fingers...) - there's still a few jobs to do but most importantly I'm really enjoying riding it - great fun in a different way to modern stuff

Thanks also to A10 Boy for the tip on getting the gearbox refurbished and apologies for the belated thank you!

I've now joined to Warwickshire VMCC so hopefully will get out on a few local runs soon too.

It's been said before but this is a great community! Thanks again all

John

John,

Congrats on the good job and good fun. Much more to come, I'm sure. Could we see some photos?

Hello again

Thought I'd pop back in and say hello.  I've been getting to gradually know the bike with a few rides out when the weather allows (although I always seem to end up on a breakfast and coffee run!)  I'm getting the hang of it now and have also joined the VMCC (Warwickshire) which has also been good to meet some like minded folk and find a further excuse for a ride out.  (Good scrambled egg at the Wellesbourne Airfield cafĂ© in Warwickshire if you're in the area :)

Front forks are now also working (less oil after some trial and error) and I'm hoping to pick up a new drive chain from Newark Autojumble at the weekend. Also had a bit of cold start practice and am getting to know the beast and what it likes/dislikes.  In summary I'm really enjoying my brit biking experience and hope to get many more miles under the belt this year :)

I've hopefully uploaded a picture of the bike to let you see how I'm getting on.

Hi John,
I am surprised to see the original orange tank badges and horrible fabricated centre stand still in good order.    *surpr*

Those stands were absolute rubbish. All that I have seen were falling apart.
I think that in 1959 BSA replaced that one with the forged steel one and moved the spring anchor to the left side of the frame, which makes life a little difficult when you try to fit the good stand to the 1958 frame.

Thanks for the heads up on the centre stand - I've been on the lookout for a spare but haven't had any luck - I now know why! I'm guessing there'll be some info somewhere on the forum on what's involved in fitting a later stand to a 58 - I'll get searching:)

John,
If you fit the later stand you either fit a pin onto the stand or weld a new anchor onto the frame for the spring.

Hi John.
Later type centre stand on Ebay : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/genuine-bsa-centre-stand-1958-63-a10-b31-a7-b33-rocket-goldstar-swinging-arm-/221380679393?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item338
Looks like it will need some work, but being over 50 years that all do. The extension arm has been removed.
On mine I bored out the stand and frame holes and fitted oversized bolt, i made new centre sleeve to suit and added new grease nipples.

So - I'm really getting the bug for this classic bike lark!

A nice sunny day on Saturday and I needed to pop over to Henley (C and D Autos) for some new petrol taps (for the Honda!) So - do I take the freshly MOT'd modern bike - NO! - I'll move it out of the way and take the A10 :)

3 hours, lunch and 60 miles later I made it back home.  I've even bought it a special plastic measuring jug to empty the wet stumped oil into before refilling the tank.  It must be a keeper!
