A10 Identification ?
« on: 04.10. 2012 15:17 »
Hi
Brand new member here. I have been out of the loop for some years but have recently restored 3 smaller British Classics. I have just bought a 1954 Flash, the swinging arm type. Do the parts for these interchange with the Road Rocket, Rocket and Gold Flash. They all look the same to me on the pictures I have found on the net, what is the difference between these beasts. I need to source the correct mudguards, headlamp assembly as I have a Gold Star arrangement  fitted with seperate speedo.
Thanks chaps.
Colin

Gidday Col, welcome along, I won't give any 'good' advice, save to say that I have a ~circa 52 plunger, with RR alloy head and barrels, LJ crank, so bits fit but need careful attention to detail, and it's not always apparent till you get to it(that is to say they may 'look' the same, but...?are they?).
You'll find lots of answers and help if you get stuck
 cheers, duTch

Edit If there's no picture here, I've removed it 'cos it's in the wrong place
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Hi Colin.
Welcome to the forum, you will find all the help and advice you need.
Rockets have alloy head, your best bet would be to buy Roy Bacon,s BSA Twin Restoration book and copy of BSA Spares catalogue for the relevant year, also this link to service sheets will help you : http://www.petercomley.com/BSA_Service_sheets.htm
1960 Super Rocket, owned since 1966, back on the road 2012 after being laid up for 29yrs.

Get the spares book but take Roy Bacon with a pinch of salt.

I agree. The book by Mick Walker (pre-unit BSA twins) is much better IMO.
