Never heard of that before. Sounds like the drop test is easier and probably a bit safer as all you need is a multi-meter and you are not messing with mains voltage.

Jim,
The mains voltage is not directly applied to the armature but voltage is magnetically induced via the "V" block.
You still have to apply voltage to the armature to drop test but at fairly low voltage.
