STD T neutral selection

Hi all,
Just awaiting return of my skimmed front hub and wheel to get the old oil distributor back on the road.
Before dissembly, had noticed that its nigh on impossible to find neutral going down from first gear, but easy to find it on the up from second.
Has anyone else come across this and know whats worn out inside the cog box?

Hi Darren,
Are the gears holding in place under load?
It may only be a slightly worn index plunger or not enough spring pressure on the plunger
Search on the forum for the correct adjustment setting

There may be a way of getting rid of the slight clutch drag that causes such things, but there isn't always.

YouThanks John, you were right. The plunger was incorrectly set. Works a treat now, although 1/10 times first gear doesnt engage, but a little roll backwards does the trick.

deja vu all over again. as i mentioned elsewhere, i had a gear problem. as it turned out,it was the plunger. it was seized below the cam and i had to heat to free it up[lotsa crap?].as far as adjustment-only about 3 threads show below the adjuster nut outside the case. then i took some emery to the housing and the plunger. it has never shifted better in the 17 years that i have owned this moto and neutral is easily found from first. it goes into all gears perfectly. this was the first time i have attempted anything inside a moto gear box. last time i was in any gear box was my 57 jag mark V11 in '64.
i had more than my usual amount of tequila at happy hour to celebrate.
now i am an expert-jaja![that's spanish for haha!]
