I need a new / or in good working order Clutch Hub to suit a 6 spring clutch for my 57 Swing Arm... Part number #42-3107  Clutch sleeve..

I know I have seen one previously at one of the on line parts sellers sites,
BUT...  now that I need it I can't locate where it was..  *red*

If anyone has one for sale or can you direct me to where I can get one ???

Hi Wozza,
Nearly ALL the pattern hubs available are sub standard  *eek* *eek*
They are about 15 thou undersize where the bearing should be a nice tight fit
I know some people can get  a six spring clutch to work???? most dont
When all is said and done, there is good reason to change to the 4 spring type

Yeah thanks John...  unfortuently I allready bought new clutch plates & the 2 new bearing races B4 I woke up to that fact..   *problem*
On a brighter note... the Drive plate & Chain wheel that came with the bike are in quite good condition..    & yes the bearings are a sloppy fit into the chain wheel outer race..  I may get away with it for awhile,Fingers crossed..
BUT as you say the 4 spring clutch with the roller bearings is a better option..
If I be good...  *whistle*  maybe SANTA will bring me one?

Wozza,
Best of luck with the pattern rubbish.
I bought 2 but the taper was wrong which caused the sleeve to sit too far out from the box.
I had them machined but 1 ended up too sloppy. The other is on a project now and seems OK.
A very expensive exercise!
I am running a six spring in my '55 and it is as good as any four spring. A mate of mine is running several six springs and they are all good.

I bought one from British Bike Spares NZ and it was no good so got a refund (wrong taper), then bought one from Draganflay and it was perfect.

Hi Wozza,
I had a flaming row with Draganflly over their clutch hub, the usual undersize crap,
The person on the phone would not accept that the part was at fault
their position was that it would fit  ????
I said the same way as they would fit through a doorway but they wouldnt block the wind  *eek*
I went through 5 or six hubs befor I managedto find an original one
C&D had the parts marked as faulty and not to sell,
Vale Onslows also said they wouldnt sell any more after I pointed out the fault
The reply from the manufacturers was zero they wernt interested in producing a proper unit
I wasted so much time searching for one it would have been cheaper to buy a new 4 spring *ex*

Cheers

I got my hub/sleeve in June last year and Draganfly reckoned before I bought it that they knew all about the taper problems and there's were ok - John, what dimension was wrong on the one you got from df, I can go check mine as I've still not fitted it

Ref the worn hub/sleeve, just my view but as these clutches are a bit suspect i'd get a new one if at all possible, also there is a later inner basket which is a bit stronger If you can find one but you need the later pressure plate to go with it as the "tangs" are a bit wider where they slide through the plate

Also it's a good idea to make sure the Outer pressure plate slots are not worn and allowing the plate to put extra pressure on the spring buckets as that can result in damage to the basket's 6 threaded studs

Looks like the one I use as a paper weight, WozzA.
I'll see if a mate is using the 4 spring I lent him.

Wozza,
If you get a new one, they don't come with the scrolled sleeve. You will have to remove it from yours and decide whether it is servicable. Should run fairly close to the bush in the sliding plate.

I think Kiwipom might have missed my earlier comment about British Bike Spares having the same problem with hubs as other suppliers, but thinking about it....it might be worth giving BBS another go at getting it right, its nearly a year since I had a problem with the hub I got from them.

And once a supplier knows about a quality issue they stop supplying the parts.... right ;)

Hi All,
Kiwi, the dimension thats too small is where the inner bearing ring fits on, it should be a tightish sliding fit over the hub, If the hub is small it allows the chain wheel to run eccentrically primary chain goes tigh and slack, pull in the clutch and wobble (more than usual *sad2*)
Another issue is that theres less spline for the inner plate drum to grip onto
