Hello from new member in Melbourne, Australia
« on: 29.02. 2012 02:36 »
Hello Everyone,

Been lurking here since I got to ride my father in law's BSA in the UK last summer!   Well after a little negotiation, and one import permit later it's on its way down under!

I have to admit I'm a newbie as far as BSA's are concerned but I'm sure you guys will be able to keep me on the straight and naarrow *smile*

Anyway here it is, a 1959 Road Rocket (or so I'm lead to believe).   Engine and frame would indicate that the former may not be entirely correct but I love the bike and I don't ever plan on selling it so it doesn't really matter.

I hope I can become a useful forum member!

Cheers for now,

Duncan

Welcome to the forum Duncan.

There are a quite a lot of forum members in Aus and a few in Melbourne, I'm over the border in SA (Mt Gambier).

By the looks of it you have a 1960 or later Super Rocket, if you want to post the numbers we can work out what year the frame and engine are.

But regardless of the year its a very nice bike, I'm envious.

Brian.

By the looks of it you have a 1960 or later Super Rocket, if you want to post the numbers we can work out what year the frame and engine are.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

The engine number I have been given indicates a 1960 Super Rocket and the the frame prefix  (CA7) 1954 RR or GF.  I guess it could have been transposed incorrectly and be a GA7 prefix which by the number would tie it in to a 1960 Super Rocket!  Only fly in the ointment is the DVLA record shows it as first registered in 1959 *eek*

Nevertheless,  I'm pretty chuffed to be getting it whatever model, year, engine or frame *smile*

Will let you all know when it hits town (mid April all being well).

I'm outer NE Suburbs Wozza,  how about you?

Cheers

I would be pretty confident when you get the bike you will find the frame number is GA7, there are a lot of differences between a 54' and a 60' frame and everything on yours indicates 1960.

It could have been first registered in 59' as in the UK the next years models were actually released a few months early, in October I think.

The Super Rocket engine numbers for 1960 start at DA10R 101. I would expect yours to be a fairly low number, probably under 1,000. Am I anywhere near right ?

DA10R 200 (to be precise)  hope I've not broken any protocols by quoting numbers *conf*

Too late to recheck the frame at the other end as it's already left!   still, that will give me something else to look forward to *smile*

Got to be a back way from Diamond Creek to Keilor, don't fancy the ring road as my first ride out!!

Cheers

I would say a engine number of 200 would almost definitely be a very late 59' registration.

I'm not a betting person but I would almost put money on your frame being a GA7 frame.

I'm confident you have a very nice 1960 Super Rocket, a very good and highly desireable bike, lucky b*#@^*d !!!!!!

I don't think there is any problem in quoting engine numbers, it is the frame numbers we have to be a little more careful about.

Great looking bike there Duncan, sad to see another bike leaving the Mother Country, you take care of it d'ya hear?  ;)  ;)  *smile* I guess the lads down there will take care of you. Ride safe!

By the way... How doe's Father in Law feel about parting with the bike? had he had it long?

By the way... How doe's Father in Law feel about parting with the bike? had he had it long?

Strangely he was the one that suggested I should buy it when we were over there last June!!  My wife said "Why don't you just let him have it as he'll get it eventually anyway"!!!  (A keeper with a sick sense of humour *smile*)

He'd only had it about 3-4 years.  His first love is his 61 Bonneville.  Think he just got the Beeza cos he'd always wanted one as a young bloke but could never afford it!  He did quite a bit of work to it during the time he had it but to be honest as he's semi retired I think he just wants another project.   Better get something else by next year as I'll need something to ride when we next visit!! *smiley4*

Cheers for now
