getting there at last
« on: 13.02. 2012 19:40 »
the super rocket is coming on very nicely thanks in the main to lots of threads i have picked through on this forum
struggling with a couple of silly things though
when i bought the bike the main wiring loom was pushed through the hole in the webbing on the head stock ,i have managed to get mine through it only to realise (i think ) that the throttle cable goes through there?
so can any one help me with the layout of the loom (im guessing it must go under the steering damper ?)throttle and choke cable please

the seat brackets are incorrect im sure as the previous owner had scratched the rear mudguard with continually bolting /unbolting the seat ,the bracket is currently made up of 3 brackets all bolted together any one have pics of the correct mounting?

and i cant get hold of the correct battery strap for love nor money if any one has one i can find it a home or some pictures of one might help and i could possibly make some thing up

The rear mounts are 2 right angle brackets bolted to the guard sides with the customary channel bracket on the front.
The seat should have a pair of studs at the rear to mate up with the brackets.
Angle bracket number is 42-6899 and you will need a pair of buffer rubbers, number 42-9183.
Battery clip is 42-4649 and were available from Domiracer some time ago.

Hi Rocket

I had a lot of trouble fitting my new Leighton seat to my 59 SR. According to Leighton the seat design changed in 59 to a more comfortable wider type (I had the older narrower type made by Wassel) and I found that using the C bracket on the top of the guard made the Leighton sit too high.
I was told that the L brackets were used on the RGS (probably so they could be sold for twice the price). I tried some but did not like to see the L brackets showing.
Not sure whether you already have a hole in the side of the guard for the L bracket or whether it is a reflection. Ther should also be a curved strenthening bracket under the guard with a shaped V which the wiring to the rear lamps passes through to keep it off the wheel.
In the end I made a new C bracket from some flat iron to get the rear of the seat to fit snug to the guard. Bit of a bugga to get it right as the mounting ears bend out at a funny angle to get the mounting ears flat.
As Trev says, the rubber buffers in the middle are vital or the seat base will bend - stick the rubbers to the top of the bolts with some contact adhesive to stop them continually falling off when you remove the seat.
I posted a topic a while ago called Leighton seats which covers it in a bit more detail.

I don't think the L brackets were used on the RGS as this did not use valenced guards. I think the RGS had a wide strap over the mudguard which accommodated the studs at the rear of the seat. Other fixings were standard type.

Adding to the RGS, it used long headed bolts, as per the early models, in the rear mounts and not studs.
The angle brackets are for the valanced guard.

Hiya,
The following might help a bit, www.classiccyclesltd.com/build-bike-slideshow.html
Picture 82 shows some of the cable and wire runs. As long as the wires aren't
stretched or chafing on any moving parts, just keep it tidy.
Good luck,Cheers.
