Lucas Break Switch
« on: 15.11. 2011 18:51 »
Im currently looking for a Lucas Break Switch part # 34257A 6SA.

Found it online at Britcycle, called them up and they dont have it and havent had one for five years.  *sad2*

Found this also, it looks the same as 34257A, but the part number isnt the same

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-6SA-BRAKE-LIGHT-SWITCH-TRIUMPH-UNIT-3TA-5TA-T100-/260582045820

Are they the same? just diffenent part numbers, because one is for BSA and the other is for Triumph?

Hi bl**dydrivers ,
Which bike are you looking for the switch for?
in the attached photos are 2 switches I have,
The left hand one in the pics is one the one which I hope will bolt to the back of the toolbox
on my Super Rocket, the brake pedal has a gizmo which should work the lever
I dont know the application of the othere switch ???
Any ideas?
Some of these switches have the contacts working opposite to each other, spring to make or to break contact
When I built the bike I fixed a flat stainless piece to the toolbox and bolted an industrial limit switch with an arm to this, Its worked so well I havnt gotten round to changing it *roll*

It would of helped if I included what its for  *smile*

1962 BSA A10 Super Rocket

The one in the picture on the left looks to be 34448 type.

The brake lever has a little lever on the top with a hole.

Anybody got any pictures of the switch in place? Im somewhat confused  *conf*

Hiya, kiwipom
The 61/62 (at least) Super Rockets doestnt have this bracket, my 63 RGS has!
Attached are a couple of pics of one fitted a Super Rocket tool box,
I dont know if this is the correct one ??

Have you got a copy of the Lucas catalog or whatever that shows the different switches?
perhaps you could share it to the forum members?

This is the correct one.
All I need to do is find a source for the boot! I robbed it for another job as the existing one was perished.

Hi, probably You can not find 34257 (left in the picture 1) anywhere  but there are many 31688s (right) on ebay. You can convert one quite easily. Grind off the lever and take a piece of sheet metal and make a new one a little longer arm (pic 2). Weld it to the switch and little paint on and that`s it. (pic 3).

John, I do have the Lucas catalogue, as well as the Smiths  ;) will take along time to scan the pages.
It appears thats the correct one, appreciate the pictures.

Trev, the boot is easy to come by and here a link from Burton Bike Bits, scroll down and youll see the boot.

Thank god I asked first about that switch, otherwise I would have got it and had a hard time fitting it  *smile*
Guess Ill keep looking and hope one turns up, if anybody knows where I can get one or who wants to part with theirs please let me know.

I kept looking and eventually found a NOS switch on eBay.

I found one searching on Klempf’s, they have them in stock and not cheap.
