Hi Guys, I am pondering the purchase of a new 10TT9 carb from Burlen for my '57 Road Rocket which now has a very worn out Monobloc fitted, does anyone know which one would be correct, or at least close, from the ones that they list? They list outlet sizes of 1 1/16, 1 3/32, 1 3/16, and 1 5/32.

When I select the 1 1/16 outlet carb from their list, it then shows I would be ordering a "TT Carburetter - 1 1/8" Bore- Long - 1 1/16" Outlet - 10TT9/24."

Not that it matters in this case, but what does long or short mean with these carbs?

Also the float bowls are apparently ordered separately, I think I would be using a 15 degree one on my alloy head, but should it be left, or right hand? Most photos in Bacon's book show right hand bowls on the Road Rockets.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know for sure but I expect that the 'long' is the inlet side if the slide and the 'short' is the bore in the body from the slide to the flange.
By the way, I used to have a 10TT9 on my Goldie and it was a nuisance since as far as I remember it doesn't have a throttle stop screw to maintain a reliable tick over. You might want to check this before you go this route.

Not sure if any of this is much help but, the amal settings list has the following for a 57' Road Rocket.

T10TT9
1 1/16" internal bore size
1 1/16" diameter at engine end
1 1/2" Centre line of body to face of flange
340 main jet
Float chamber type 14/532  (15 degree)
L.H. Mix chamber opposite to STD

it states on the amal website for the t10tt9d 1 1/16",the later ones had the 1 5/32,long means from centre of body to face of mounting flange, long is 2.5",short is 1.75",right hand mounted 15 degree, hope this helps,by the way they're not cheep.

Thanks for the info! Yes I know they are not cheap. I have been building up another Monobloc from my box of spares, but those have a lot of wear too. I think a new carb is called for, so I was thinking why not go with the original style.
Alanp, I though that the idle was set with the throttle cable, since there is not throttle stop? Or is there no idle at all ?

Thanks again

just a point that because the float chamber is on the right, the body is handed,so the choke on the body is on the left.

I concur with AlanP, the 10TT9 doesnt have idle screws for slow running so needs to be set to idle off the throttle cable. All right on a race bike where the bike must be kept running with throttle or will stall.
I've got a pair of these on my '55 and it certainly goes well enough, might be the methanol helping though. It also only spends short periods running and is constantly being fettled. Personally for a road road rocket I'd go monoblock.
Certainly great bling factor though ;)

One of those plastic "cruise control" type throttle clamps to hold it open a tad at lights/parking/tuning, would help there.
Running with no idle helps with just a bit more engine braking.

I can't see any problem with adjusting the cable to bring the slide up for idle?

Hi All
If the idle is set by cable, turn handlebars to the right revs up
turn to the left engine dies  *sad2*

Thanks for all the good info, I think in the interest of economy and having a reliable idle I will stay with a Monobloc.

Andy I am curious about the handed carb in relation to the float chamber. The website doesn't mention whether they manufacture handed 10TT9 carbs so I will see if they will answer an email.

the ones i have are handed, and the float chamber only fits on the opposite side to the choke, which also has to be handed,i have two bodies, but only one that is the correct hand, which i need for my bike, both 1 1/16",my friend has a new body, but again the wrong hand, but if your interested let me know cheers andy
