Gday Muskrat,
Good to hear you are in one piece.
We all know about bruises, sprains and broken bones but a punctured lung sounds grim?
You really got to work out another way to meet nurses.
cheers, Tom

They don't keep you in hospital long down under do they. I've heard this Emu oil is good stuff (or was it the "amber nectar").
Get well soon.

Gee Wilco, I don't look at it often. If cars are catching and passing me I speed up. If I'm catching and passing them I'm happy. That's the sort of job the missus wants me to do whilst recovering, but at the moment I'm burning off in the back yard.
Cheers

Gday,
The original post advising us of Musky's fall mentioned
'make sure his helmet is left on and he is not rolled on his back'
I probably should know this.
Can anyone tell me the reasons why?

The other tragedy is he would have missed "State of Origin"  - great game.
more of the same next year.
cheers

Hi Olev.
removal of helmets was a big no no for fear of further damaging neck/spine injuries possibly leading to paralysis.
I think that might of changed - don't know for sure what is recommended now .

We had a talk by a paramedic at coronary rehab ( exercise ) and he said to forget all the two breaths mouth to mouth and fifteen chest compressions stuff as most folk shied away from doing anything for fear of getting it wrong.
He said first thing was to phone for help, second was to just pump the chest and keep going until someone arrived, the reasoning being it's better to do something than stand around wondering what the sequence was and in fact pumping the chest does actually assist both the heart to beat and the lungs to work.
Proviso is of course that the person is unconscious lads, also if a lady ask permission first.
All the best - Bill

G'day Olev,
leave helmet on, loosen strap. Has been known for a rider to be conscious and have badly fractured skull and have brain fall out once helmet removed.
Not rolled on back. In my case place on side to stop me drowning in my own blood.
I believe everyone that has a licence to drive or ride should have a first aid cert.
Bugga I was awake on Wed and every tv in the place was on the footy. I was a captive audiance.
Cheers

It's OK, Wilko. We've established that Muskrat's clock is still running.

Well on the mend thanks Mark & ALL. Ribs no longer creaking when I get up. Been 5 weeks today, back at work for 3.
Went for short first ride yesterday on the '51 still wearing war wounds, just straightened the foot peg. New front tyre fitted.
Cheers
