Another one finished
« on: 04.07. 2011 07:53 »
Just put the finishing touches to this one.

Its a mix of 51' and 52' plus a lot of bits that dont belong. Its not a replica of anything just built out of what I had and could find and a paint scheme that I liked.

Nice result, well done.
I was also admiring all the space you have in your garage, I can hardly move in mine!

Just the standard 8" front brake MG, wish it was a Goldie one. You probably spotted the cut outs in the hub, I've never been sure just when they had them and when they didnt. My 51' has them as does this one but the 53' doesnt. I have a original brochure from 1950 and it shows them. Maybe from 53' on they didnt have them except for the "sports" models.

Since I started work on this one I have managed to find some of the parts to make it more original, I have a correct front guard and headlight now. The frame is 52' and the engine cases 51' but if at some stage I happen to find a set of 52' cases I might put it back to original. That wouldnt be for some time though as I have others to restore first. Next project is a L29, a 1929 350cc OHV BSA.

Sorry guys, I should have added a bit more info.

Its a 650cc, 7.25-1 compression with a 356 cam. A monobloc carby with standard magneto ignition and 12v electrics. Its not meant to be anything special as far as performance or anything like that.

Its a 52' frame with a 51' engine. When I bought it I knew the frame and engine didnt match as far as years and I wanted the front guard for my 51' rigid A10. The front guard on it I picked up at a swap for $10. I thought about trying to find a set of 52' cases and the rest of the bits to make it original but in the end just built it with what I had and could pick up at swaps for a reasonable amount of money. Since I started on it I have found a good front guard of the correct type and also a headlight. 52' has the headlight with the underslung pilot light. If I find a good set of 52' cases oneday I might rebuild it more original but at least its a complete bike on the road and not a heap of bits in the shed.

The weather here lately has been unusually bad so I havent ridden it much yet, only 40 miles so far. It runs well and so far only a couple of minor problems. Ocassionally it gives a cough back through the carby when blipping the throttle on slow down so I have ordered a carby slide with 1/2 less cutaway which should cure that. The speedo also under reads, once again it wasnt the correct one for the bike but came with it and seemed to be in good condition but I will send it off this week and get it recalibrated. I should get some more miles in on it today.

Like I said, nothing special but better than a heap of bits in the shed going rusty.
