S/A crinkle hub rear brake
« on: 01.07. 2011 11:36 »
Although my bike has always passed the MOT I am not very impressed with the effectiveness of the rear brake. It is perfectly possible to lock the rear wheel when turning it by hand, but in actual road use it leaves much to be desired. The brake does work, but it feels very wooden in operation, and although there is some braking effort it is pretty poor to say the least. Does anyone have any ideas about how to improve its performance?

Can you remind us whether your back brake is RGS/Goldie rod operated, cable operated like e.g.SRs or a rod modified cable system. If it's cable I'm not surprised it's lacking in feel/effectiveness. My RGS/Goldie rear brake is very effective. If it's cable there is a past thread on here covering modn. to rod.

Sorry about that, I forgot to state the obvious. The brake is a proper RGS/Goldie rod operated brake.
