Changing the gearbox sprocket

Hi all, new to the forum and new to A7s so apologies if this is a dumb question, I have looked for previous threads and my useless Haynes manual but I am none the wiser.

I have recently taken over as custodian of my late father's '59 A7SS and I have to change the gearbox sprocket.......................and have no idea how to get at it. In simple terms what is the process and are there any "tricks of the trade" or "local Knowledge" that makes the job easier?

G'day gropperod, welcome to the forum.
                                                      1st good to see you taking interest in Dad's old banger.
The whole primary has to come off, so it's a good time to inspect all those bits as well. Have a look in the literature section for service sheets and manuals.
While your in there replace the seal behind the sprocket as well.

Sorry I'm a 1 finger typer so would take all night to give detail.
remove foot peg, rear brake lever, primary cover, primary chain, clutch, inner cover, Loosen sprocket nut, rear chain, sprocket nut.
Take your time, make lots of notes and or photos. If you get stuck ask again.

Brilliant, thats all I needed to know - and thanks for the tip, I will make sure I replace the seal as well while I'm in there.

Hi Gripperod. If you have not already got a new sprocket then take care where you purchase a new one from. There are loads available, but a lot are cheap imports and the quality of the material is poor.

I went with Burtons, I figured I was safest using one of the big established suppliers........?????
