Electronic tacho for an a10
« on: 26.05. 2011 14:59 »
Has anyone bought an electronic tacho for an A10? I saw them advertised in the bike mags for some time last year by a company called hemmings a Norton dealer ,powered from the magneto. They no longer stock them just wondered if anyone had any info or had one regards bob hebdon

Didn't they make tachos that ran off the high tension leads in the old days? Or am i thinking of timing lights?

We used to use Scitsu tachometers on our race bikes, they had an internal rechargeable battery and just one sensor wire that you tie-wrapped to the HT lead.
Don't see why one of those wouldn't work on a A10.
A full charge would last a full weekend's racing, in fact we used them on the endurance bike, so it would last at least 8 hours solid.
Very reliable, good quality kit, were about £120 as I remember, but that was a few years ago.
I'm sure they still make them, yes they do - http://www.scitsu.co.uk/docs/main.htm

Scitsu's are good - have them fitted to my T20 Suzuki and TZ350 race bikes - but they don't like vibration. When you buy one you get a strange aluminium mounting bracket that you must use, along with the rubber mounting strap things. They look a bit odd really when mounted correctly, but in a race fairing they look fine. On a road bike, this set-up would look a bit odd, but if you mount it like a normal tacho, it may stop working - they are quite fragile things. Some of my race-mates refuse to use them now and refer to them as shitsus!!

good morning Wilco, not sure ,if not I'd get one off e-bay they are pretty cheap along with glass and bevel. I think the idea is He provides the unit you fit into whatever mode you're looking for IE racing just a box but classic fit into old speedo/tacho shell and make it look like the original. Not had a reply yet to yesterday's e-mail but hopefully more info then and i'll let you know. Best wishes, Bob.
