Greetings Folks,

Just a quick intro until I can figure all of this out!  I have been enjoying this website quite a while now.  My first Brit bike was a 68 Bonneville in 1980. I currently have a 61 "Flash/Rocket" (long story) I restored and a 57 Road Rocket I am currently restoring (I'm a masochist!).   They bring me more joy in the shop than on the road (weird huh?!).

First question, if I may.  Did only RGS bikes have 4 engine lug frames?  My "Flash/Rocket" that my old Navy pal brought back from Scotland has one.

I have picked up a ton of tech info from you all. Thanks!

what one lug thats unusual only joking i think its only the rgs that have 4 lugs cast into frame

Do some more searching and you will find threads on the 4 lug and / or RGS frames
There are lots more ""RGS's"" around than BSA ever made
the 4 lug frames were used on some export models and some 1954 ??? bikes

             1954 had no lugs. Neither did early 1955. There was only tubes in all positions.


Seabee,
             The four lug frames are 1962-3. I find it hard to believe that they were only on export machines but stranger things have happened.

Thanks guys for all of the replies.  I believe the bike is an original non-export Golden Flash (1961-?).  The serial number on the frame is only partially legible and is registered with just those numbers.  It did come to me from Scotland via my old Navy friend who was stationed there.  I re-painted his pickup and he gave me the bike (1998) in boxes as it had sat since he took it apart in 1982.  It has a 1961 Super Rocket engine in it.  I rebuilt everything in 2002 and have enjoyed puttering with it since!  It sure starts a lot of conversations wherever I take it.  Maybe I should add to the pile of RGS replicas? (Hah)
