Rally Photo
« on: 06.02. 2011 15:52 »

I just got in touch with a mate from college and he gave me a link to a couple of his photo albums. I have hardly any photos of my Shooting Star as it was stolen just after the restoration was finished. I went to quite a few rallies in those days and this one was the 1985 Mad March Hare.

Here's one from the archives.  The Tees Tornadoes MCC camping area at the Robin Hood Rally, Nottingham in the late 1960's.  My machine is the red A65 Rocket Outfit on the right hand side.  That's an A10 hauling the big double adult unit.  You don't often see side sidecars now.

So,  is that a bathtub sidecar to the left of the double?

It certainly is a bathtub Richard....hitched up to a sprung-hub Triumph.  Unfortunately I can't read the inscription on the back of it and it was too long ago for me to remember.

Hi All
I just got in touch with an old friend 'fido' who recommended I join this forum. It is my picture at the top of this thread of his A7 and my A10 in the background.
The other bike is a 1973(?) CB500 Honda.

Here is another pic of my A10 in that era:

I'd ridden down to a friends in London on it, along with two friends on a Bonneville. This picture scanned too dark - it is one of my favourite pictures in its original form. Taken 1984 in SE London.
I still have the bike - heavily modified which might upset the odd purist or two - and am rebuilding it at the moment. Should be back on the road this summer!  *smile*

Nice forum - I hope to stick around
All the best

1967 T20 Suzuki - pretty standard road bike

Triumph Tiger (modern one)

t20racerman,

Yes, welcome to the forum from me too and I hope the rebuild goes ok.  Interesting registration number you have there!!

Going back to the first picture.  I remember the March Hare Rally being held in the Derbyshire Peak District...Buxton area maybe??  Is the Mad March Hare the same one?

Hi there
I (sadly) can't remember where the Mad March Hare took place. It was somewhere in the Midlands though. I know that going back from the rally we went via North Wales to the 1985 Dragon Rally re-run event. This is where the photo at the top of this thread was taken. The 1985 Dragon was thick snow and only a few got there. At the re-run you could go and get your (modified) Rally badge and bag of goodies. The snow was still quite thick in places.

So, 26 years later, have I grown up? NO!  *smile* I'm off to the 2011 Dragon Rally this weekend on my 1967 T20 Suzuki 'Super Six' - my 28th Dragon rally... Next year I'll be on my A10.

See you there?

Yes indeed! will see you there somewhere, look out for my Red A10 with fairing, the one in my avatar shot.

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning early (Weds) to make a week of it. Lovely place North Wales at this time of the year, hardly any traffic. Ride Safe!

Is your Suzuki Super Six anything like this one.  The Bambini sidecar would be advantageous for the Dragon Rally if you were expecting snow!!  This pic was taken at the same Robin Hood Rally.  Sorry about the quality.  I've tried to enhance it the best I could.

Just because we are on the A7/A10 forum...note the bike in the background.

Have a great weekend.  I haven't been to a Dragon Rally since 1972??

Wow - what a photo! A Super Six and sidecar.  *eek*  Love it.

My T20 road bike is a standard black one - I'll see you at the Dragon LJ. Have a great ride around Wales.

We're moving off topic really but here's one Circa 1976 of 3 mates and their bikes.
Me, with hair, on the A7 with tee bars, Mick on his 1975 Bonneville and John on his 1959 350 Enfield Clipper

John and I riding the same machines in my 2009 Youtube film posted here : -http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php/topic,2780.msg18453.html#msg18453
