Jumble Sales this Weekend
« on: 28.01. 2011 16:00 »
There are two Bike Jumble Sales this weekend (29th and 30th Jan) in the greater London area. I can only go to one or the other, can anyone tell me which is generally the better one to attend as I have not been to either of these. On Saturday there is the Kempton Bike Jumble at Ascot and on Sunday there is the WhiteWebb Motorcycle Jumble in Middlesex.

I'd have thought that Kempton is best... Not been to the other one. Let us know how you get on.

Hey, you only need one stall, with one guy selling one bit you need to make it a fantastic autojumble!

A bunch of us once went to a jumble in a drill hall in Fife, we got there, there were about 10 tables with guys selling stuff they'd cleared out from their sheds.
Yet every one of us came home with something we were really chuffed with.
Cheers,
Iain

That's exactly it Iain... The last couple of Newark & Notts autojumbles have had poor turnouts due to bad weather, but I've had some good buys!

I think that with fewer traders you can really turn over all the junk properly instead of wandering around aimlessly amongst tons of stuff where bits that your looking for can easily be missed.

I had some good parts from Newark Jumble but it seems to be turning into a Sunday market. I suppose that the old parts are running out, they cannot go on for ever. The best jumble in the Midlands is the VMCC Founders Day at Stanford Hall but it,s only once a year. Any other suggestions for the Midlands or greater Midlands area.

Agreed. The other good one is the Banbury run one (although I haven't been for a couple of years). Again VMCC and lots of people clearing out their sheds etc. A lot of real vintage flat tank stuff as you'd expect but I've found the occasional gem there.

The last couple of commercial jumbles I went to were dire.

I think the thing to remember is... there comes a time when a whole load of stuff needs to be got rid of quickly. Ebay is not everyone's cup of tea as each individual item takes time and effort to sell even if they get good prices. The best traders are those who turn up for the very first time to sell a shed load of stuff, either they be house clearance people selling up all the shed stuff they have collected, or people like us that's just having a grand clear out, Or Sons & Daughters clearing out dead dads junk (awful expression to use but that's how it is) and I hate to think that my lot might sell off my stuff too cheaply so I've labelled most of my good stuff with a valuation of it's worth.

I might have to moderate this post later, I blame my lunchtime beer!  *smile*

Right... I'm off out back to the shed, I've got a gas fire on in there.

Newark certainly isnt what it used to be (as mentioned, far too many car boot stalls) but as its only 15 miles away I usually go to each one and theres usually at least one garage clearout stall there where you can find some decent stuff.

Stafford was a real eye opener...going this easter for both days on the bike, but am B&B'ing with the Wife so the car will be there for those impulse buys!!

Kempton by far is bigger, better, cheaper parts and more variety, more of the bigger companies go there, Whitewebs is very small, we went today and there was like 10 stalls and it was 4 pounds to get in!! Although I did get a complete exhaust for a B40 scrambler, clutch casing, cyclinder head and rockers and a swinging arm for 40 quid  *smile*

But We also went to Kempton, much more, spoke to terry weedy company and got myself a complete rear wheel, with mint rim, and perfect brakes and galvanised spokes for 20 quid so I was lucky at both of them  *smile* *smile*

Been to Newark twice, great if you want some dusters, taiwanese chocolate spanners and want to spend 4 hours elbow to elbow with the shell suit and trainers brigade.

Stafford is my favourite, I can spend hours rumaging through the rusty junk outside it drives her indoors mad.  *smile*

That ebay can be good or bad depending on what you buy. On one level its a great way for enthusiasts to spread their unwanted spares around the wrekin but you can get some crap if you dont ask the right questions.  *sad2*
