Petrol tank Stuck!
« on: 26.01. 2011 15:01 »
Firstly a confession - this is on my recently acquired swing-arm B33, not the A10 which is still going back together slowly...

However the tank & most of the frame is identical so I thought I'd ask.. Have removed the centre bolt, bracing bar under the tank & undone the fuel lines... Now the tank should simply lift off ( the A10 one does!) but it's having none of it..
I want to investigate a bit of f/glass filler that I've found on one of the front seams near the top so thought I'd just take a quick look..

I imagine that the thing is stuck on the rubbers that sit on the top frame tube - has anyone else had this trouble.?? . It really is stuck, doesn't shift at all....

Thanks,

Adrian

Put a big bit of foam rubber/rag/ an old bike glove between the tank and handlebar brackets on the top yoke before you try tugging at it.
When it comes loose, it really comes off. Don't want to ding the top of the tank.
Cheers,
Iain

Remove the saddle and prise the back of the tank with a car tire iron between the top frame tube and the tank tunnel. Follow Iain's advice, too.

Hi Adrain

Good advice from Iain and David, had the same problem my tank had to been off for 28 years and the rubbers had glued them selves to the frame and tank.

Many thanks Iain, David & Nick..

I'll proceed as suggested, I've got some old inner tube somewhere I'll wedge betwen the tank & the headstock to prevent damage & see how it goes..

Too damn cold in the garage to do much at present - tried to do a bit to the A10 but the light is poor & it's freezing again...
Roll on Spring...

Cheers,
