TLS Brake plate ID?
« on: 15.01. 2011 21:08 »
HI All,
Can anyone ID the intended fitment of this 8 inch TLS brakeplate?
It looks to be of the same manufacture as the "Taylor Dow" brakeplate on my SR, same levers and fittings
It will not fit a BSA 8in. single sided drum !
It will not fit a BSA 190mm hub !

The brakeplate anchors onto a raised lug on the fork leg (like a late A10). But the outer appearance is very different to the TD brake I have on a full width hub wheel
The spindle hole measures 19.8mm
The shoes stick out 40mm (app) from the lip on the plate,
48mm from the piece that goes against the wheel bearing
The recess that fits over the wheel hub is 58mm dia (app)

The last pic shows the plate compared to the one that fits the 8in. single sided hub

It's similar to a Commando TLS plate but the Commando has 3 holes on the left and yours has 2.
Good luck John.

Hi Trev,
I did some Googling and it seems Norton have a steel peg on the brake plate which goes in a slot in the forkleg??

My plate is the other way round  *conf*

Hi All,
I have been able to tie down which bike the 8in. TLS brakeplate will fit  *smile*
Its from a 63 onwards Triumph, Apparently they fitted wider shoes around then??
I called to a chap yesterday and tried it in some of his Triumph wheels!

Before it goes to be modded to fit a BSA wheel does anyone have aan 8in.TLS  BSA one to swop/sell /trade ??

Cheers

HI MG,
No, its an upgrade for the  8in. Triumph fullwidth hub that originall had single leading shoe brake,
To the best of my knowledge this hub is the same one that Triumph introduced their own TLS brakeplate for in 67or so

Its fairly common to see the TLS Triumph plate (67 on) fitted to the BSA A10 wheels
I dont have a BSA full width hub to hand to try and see how it would fit to that???

The inner circular boss is too small to fit over the bearing housing on the 8" BSA single sided hub,  *sad2*
