Hi folks
Great forum.  Been viewing your site for some time now and using it as my personal reference book, so, I thought I should 'apply for a library ticket' and join to say thank you. 
A little bit about me.  I?ve been riding since I was 16 and have had bikes ever since.  I am a member of my local classic bike club, and I run the website and forum for them, which I enjoy doing.  The forum is new, so not too many members or chit-chat at the moment, but it is early days.
I bought a 1959, A10, Golden Flash as a retirement present for myself about 2 years ago.  Now that I have a bit of spare time on my hands, I thought I would give it a face lift.  I stripped the bike down in September and started to give it a full nut and bolt restoration.  The bike is nearly done now apart from some cables and a rocker feed pipe.

Hi Ron and welcome,had my flash since I was about 19 finely got round to getting it on the road.Just wondering which silencers to buy. ( the eternal question It seems )

Congratulations! You are our 10,000th member. Well, not really, but quite welcome all the same. You have probably learned that, around here, photos of A7s and A10s in all stages of building or, even, completed, are craved by the members. Please feed our cravings post some shots.

Funny you should ask about silencers as I had a bit of a dilema fitting them.  I purchased a complete system from a well known UK distributor (begins with the letter A).  I started a blog when I began stripping down the bike, as there are quite a few members in my club with A10s and A7s, and it was to keep them updated on my progress. You can read more, if you want to go there,  (http://beezerman.blogspot.com). I also have quite a few photos of the bike tear down/rebuild.

Good pictures Ron everything looks brand new,I have just sent a pair brituro silencers back( bought off e bay) as they were rusty inside,I think I will go with Armours they are reasonably priced.I bought the Ex Pipes there a good few years ago.Cheers.

With my recent experience - remember to check the fit as soon as possible, in case you need to return them.  Bearing in mind that I still think my exhaust (rather than the silencer) is wrong, because the end of the exhaust pipe should have a slight uplift where the exhaust meets the silencer.  But mine are on and they are staying on!

Regarding purchasing silencers/exhausts there's been plenty of discussion on this topic! The company you mention is certainly not at the top of my list - they may be reasonably priced - my deaing with them cost me £45 with nothing to show for it - but good advice about checking they fit ASAP; hence don't buy them until you are really ready to fit them. If you do a quick search you should find the thread.

I did look at the threads and like you said there is plenty of discussion on the subject but in the end I got them to fit by using the old silencer brackets that I had.
I am now looking for a c spanner so I can adjust the rear shocks as the two spanners that I have are too big, but I do have a phone number of someone so maybe I will get lucky.

Thanks for the welcome.
I to have a bantam D1 but mine is registered as a 53 with a 49 engine and is converted to 12volt and also a 67 Starfire so it looks like that we have a lot in common.
I think every home should have a D1 in there shed as they are one of the best bike around, one day I will do a write up on the D1 & Starfire and put it on my blog but not yet as I have to many things to do at the moment.

Very nice pair you got there  *smile* My bantam is as it came out the factory, never been restored and its still running like a dream  *smile*, my starfire is tidy, not really a restoration really, I built it up using all different bits as a run around for when Ive passed my test. I got it as a basket case, the wheels had been rebuilt but have started to pitt, the mudguards although chrome are pitting but hey, It went from a box of bits to nearly a complete bike ( few things to finish on it, wiring and tinkering) for less than 500 quid and it only took a weekend to build up  *smile* so it will make a perfect run around, maybe one day I will strip it down and restore it, the frame, wheels, mudguards are the only bits that need restoring, the rest is cleaned and painted and freshened up  *smile* *smile*

Heres the really sad bit, we own every bike in that picture with the starfire in it lol, the B40, the MZ etz  *eek* and a bandit just like the one in the back ground  *eek* *eek*
