What is this bike ??
« on: 03.11. 2010 11:40 »
It is Stamped CA7.11532, the # seems quite high. There is no crossover for the brake and no Steering lock, and the grease fitting on the neck is in the middle   *conf*

Definitely a 1955 A7/A10 frame with a # higher than 7001, the hole through the frame tube for the brake pedal pivot, the stop for the brake arm next to it, and the brake light switch mounting plate.
The steering lock could have been cut off, the tank mounting bracket definitely has been shortened.

But could of course also be 1954, CA7.1153, and the 2 has been added. That would explain why the steering lock plate is missing, because that had been introduced in 1955 afaik.

I've posted two pictures of the brake pedal setup on my 1955 Shooting Star here (I think you asked for a picture elsewhere?):

Mind you, the brake pedal is a modified M20 one though!

Hi Humble Pie,
There was one sold on fleabay recently number 290486596725   Â£114  *eek* *eek*
I got one on Ebay fairly recently for less than £30 *smile* as the seller did not know what it fitted only knowing BSA
The pedal is also used on 54/55,  B31/33 models.

Perhaps Trevor in Australia will comment on the frame??

It also appears to not have the pump mounts and has the larger gap between the frame cross tube and the toolbox/oiltank brackets??????????????

Yes John,
                 I will comment.
It is not 1954 as it has 2 cast lugs on the front down tube. The early '55 frames didn't have cast lugs but did have the steering lock.
Most likely the steering lock has been removed. A real good look may find evidence of it being there.

My A7SS is only ten digits away from this number. My bike is supposed to be a 1955 A7SS,although I did buy it in India and it is far from standard. The Frame appears exactly like your photos.

Cheers

Is that the inside diameter or the outside?
The bottom one has a larger inside to fit the stem shoulder.
