« on: 11.07. 2010 16:04 »
A bit of a longshot I know but does anyone have a good or recondition crankshaft they can part with?

Regards

Nigel

Hello Nigel!

I might part with the small journal crankshaft out of my s'arm Flash, as it will get a large journal crank since the engine is apart currently after my small end bush failure.

It has been reground and nitrided for added surface hardness and fracture toughness. Since this has been done it has only covered less than 2000 miles, so all you will need are a new timing side bush and bearing shells.
The timing side journal measures 34.6mm, which is -.010, the big end journals are on -.030 (36,32mm).

All the threads and splines are in very good condition and the sludge trap had been cleaned prior to fitting of course.

There's one minor downer which I don't want to conceal however:
Obviously the drive side shaft has been ground down once, so that the inner bearing race is a precise sliding fit on the shaft. I guess this has been done to facilitate crank shimming.
I reckon several others have done this as well, and provided the bearing race is fitted with Loctite and the cush drive nut is tightened properly, this hasn't given any problems ever since or is likely to do so.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.
I'd rather see it in the hands of another enthusiast than getting mouldy in my cellar.  *smile*

Cheers, Markus
